135 February 10th, 2012 The Revolution’s ratings continue to erode! Has half the audience OLTL had a year ago!

While One Life to Live viewers are now in week four without their favorite soap, week three of its replacement, The Revolution, proved to be disastrous and quite the embarrassment for ABC Daytime programming in the just released ratings for the week of January 30th!

According to TV Media Insight, “Based on the Live Plus Same Day ratings from Nielsen, week three of ABC daytime talk show The Revolution dipped to 1.44 million viewers, which is now half the audience of year-ago occupant One Life to Live (2.85 million viewers for the week of 1/31/11). “  Can you imagine?  They cancelled One Life for ratings like these?

But that is not all the bad news for the lifestyle/makeover series! The Revolution has 50 percent less of its share of the audience in three key demos than OLTL a year ago at this time— women 25-54, women 18-49 and women 18-34.  So who we ask,  is this show aimed at when women are clearly tuning out?

TV Media Insight also points out some more fun facts! “Three weeks to-date and The Revolution on ABC is turning into one of the biggest failures in the history of daytime.”  And as far as the last three shows to replace the soaps, The Revolution is lagging way behind The Talk and even, The Chew with The Talk at 2.31 million, The Chew at 2.23, and The Revolution at 1.44 for the ratings week!

On-Air On-Soaps also stumbled across yesterday another casting call that went out for the series taking place in Long Beach, California that read like this: “LOOKING FOR OUR NEXT “HERO” WOMEN for ABC’S NEWEST DAYTIME TALK SHOW! The Producers of The Biggest Loser and ABC’s newest hit Extreme Makeover Weight Loss Edition have a new daytime talk show for ABC that will help you shed the weight once and for all! Our team of experts will provide YOU with a lifestyle makeover!

We are looking for inspirational and relatable WOMEN who are ready to drop 50-100 lbs and regain control of their lives. On this show, we will provide you with a trainer and nutrition plan to help you lose the weight within your own environment. Have career, family, life situation or kids taken control of your weight? Have you overcome challenging circumstances that have caused you to gain the weight? Are you constantly giving to others or just neglecting yourself? Is it finally time to lose that extra weight?  If you answered yes to any of these, then this is your chance to turn it all around!”

We say, how about turning this all around and putting One Life to Live back on the air and admitting that this was a huge mistake? Since that may never happen, perhaps  because The Revolution is performing way below sub-par that it helps General Hospital get some additional time on the air! Let us know your thoughts to all the above! We know you have plenty to say.

Gosh, you say it’s week 4 without our soap. It seems like it’s been off at least twice as long. I sure miss my One Life. I am boycotting ABC except for GH and Castle (Nathan Fillion supported the soaps verbally). I ‘d like to hear what Michael things we can do to help save GH and hopefully get One Life back on the air somehow in some way.

There isn’t anything that can be done to get back One Life to Live on the air. It’s over.

But if there’s anything that can be done to save General Hospital, I sure would like for Michael and the rest of the community to give us more ideas and suggestions. Until ABC publicly cancelled it, it is never not too late to save General Hospital.

By the way, here’s a list of ABC’s syndicated shows. Boycott all of these shows even if the stations in your local area that is airing them is not affiliated to ABC.

You say that OLTL is over, well it may be for ABC/Disney but we can bring it back on another network. Please don’t be so negative about not getting our shows back. We soap fans are millions strong and we have been heard. If you are not already, go to Facebook and search for the sites that support our soaps and who are supporting Agnes Nixon and who are boycotting ABC/Disney. The sites are called:
    SWANS: Standing with Agnes Nixon
    Daytime Fans Unite
    Boycott ABC
    Veto anythings ABC or Disney
    OLTL Fan page
    SOS: Save Our Soaps
I would pay for cable, satellite, etc to watch our shows

There are also many more just search for anything related to daytime soaps, and please join as many as you can and do the tasks. They are listening and taking notice. We have been heard and they will keep hearing us until our soaps are released to another channel or network. Like you said it is never to late to save our soaps. I add to that statement: Even if they have been cancelled we can get them back.

BOYCOTT the ADVERTISERS of The Chew and The Revolution. Low ratings are not enough for cancellation. With no advertisers, the shows cannot exist. A list of all the advertisers should be posted for all to see. The advertisers have to understand they will be boycotted for supporting ABC’s cancellation of soaps.

STOP watching ALL ABC shows and channels, including the upcoming Academy Awards.

    david replied

Correction: Advertisers will not know you are boycotting them. We have to watch the commercials on The Chew and The Revolution and WRITE the ADVERTISERS saying WE WILL NOT BUT THEIR PRODUCTS because they support these shows.

Remember the publicity when Hoover stopped advertising when OLTL was canceled?

ABC is also dead last in the prime time ratings this fall and I believe it is due to the mass boycott of disgruntled soap fans. Their ONLY choice at this point is to make sure that General Hospital takes over The Revolting’s time slot or “Katie” will die a quick death because NO ONE will be watching ABC Daytime at all.

    david replied

The “white lab coat” comment is funny. You’re right–why is this OB/GYN wearing this on television? It’s not like she’s going to get her clothes dirty talking to people. She just wants to remind everyone she’s a doctor–and she HAS to: what normal physician would waste their time appearing on television talking about facial scrubs or grooming your feet for sex appeal? She’s an embarrassment to her profession. Some people will do anything to be seen on television, no matter how ridiculous it makes them look–and she’s clueless. I can’t see the promotions for The Revolution without cringing.

I still miss OLTL too. It hurts so much. Yes, ABC will never respond to emails or apologize. Your time is too precious to waste on this heartless, greedy corporation.

I knew that Daphne from the Chew was Oz’s daughter. I didn’t kow that Lab Coat was his daughter, too. ABC seems to be the land of Oz these days… And that actually seems to shed some speculative light on why Oprah didn’t want to pick up the soaps… We, the soap fans are disgruntled enough over the fact that these programs are taking the time slots of our beloved shows. Dr. Oz is her doctor and her friend. She would much rather stand in support of him (and it seems his family) than soap fans, soaps and her own OWN network when picking up soap operas that could have brought her some much needed viewership (her channel isn’t doing so well, either.) Could it be she didn’t want to support the competition. She didn’t want to give the built in audience of soap fans anywhere else to go, even if it was her own network, in favor of Dr. Oz’s daughters?

I thought they were BOGUS..I guess she doesn’t need anymore money … Well enough about that..I guess Oprah & Dr. Oz are good friends… Replying to comment on 3/6 at 1:16 pm…………

I don’t have a problem with The Revolution. It just happens to be the show that has replaced One Life to Live. If it wasn’t The Revolution, it would have been another show.

My big problem is with ABC (aka the Always Be Cancelling network). They refuse to promote their soaps while CBS and NBC are still doing it (even during the evening in the case of NBC). During the Go Red event a few days ago, ABC Daytime promoted all of its daytime shows except of course General Hospital. ABC seems to forget that this is the show that brought it 30 million viewers in one single day back in 1981. This is the show that has dominated daytime landscape during the late 70s and much of the 80s. Anne Sweeney makes me sick.

Remember when ABC said in June 2011 that they would program their 2012 daytime fall schedule with their strongest shows. Of course, when they said that , they probably already had in mind that General Hospital would be the show to go. But with ratings like this, ABC is in deep shit now because they now have to consider the serious possibility that The Revolution, not General Hospital, may be the show that would have to make room for the affiliates and Katie’s syndicated show. I don’t know what the ratings are from last week for General Hospital . But let’s says it’s 2,4 millions which is what GH typically get. That makes it 1 million viewers more than The Revolution. Even if less is excepted from talk shows in their ratings than soap operas, a one million difference in viewership is just way too significant for ABC to choose The Revolution over General Hospital.

I hope that ABC’s advertizes are paying attention to this as way we do.

Now that’s sad….they have to pay people to be in their audience. If ABC really wanted to make this right, and make a smart business decision…they would admit they were wrong, bring back OLTL and get rid of The Revolution. Put stupid Katie on during Oprah’s old time slot. Don’t they realize, soap fans are what made Oprah Winfrey who she is today. Millions of people would watch ABC soaps and then keep the channel on ABC when Oprah came on…..so it makes sense to put Katie in that time slot, if they want to try and build a strong lineup. But as long as they play this act of thinking they know what’s best, and try to force programming, that obviously no one wants down our throats, they are going to have problems. If they don’t even try to make this right, it makes no sense to even bring the new Katie show on, because people will continue to boycott.

this is such wonderful news ,Im not surprised by it ,but lets enjoy anyway.to bad abc didnt listen to its audience when we tried in every way we could to let them know we wont watch this garbage, petitions ,e mails ,letters ,phone calls ,not watching abc unless its general hospital ,only thing after all of this ,that I can say is abc doesnt listen to there ,use to be fan base, and we are not going to change our views or change our channels till the soap problem is fixed.I miss all my children and one life to live so much ,Im running out of words to express how I feel ,my afternoons were the abc soaps ,because of that my evenings were also abc,Its been so hard giving up a network that use to entertain me with good shows, and now I cant stand to hear there ads telling us what to watch even there prime time shows.abc has gone downhill its like watching one long infomercial, and Im not wired to watch any of it,so as abc continues to ignore the soap fans ,Im going to continue to ignore abc, your programming is cheep and boring ,and I will never watch anything you have to offer,my advice to abc, fire everyone ,hire all new people ,and start listening to what your audience has to say.

What boggles my mind even more is how ABC and Disney seem to be oblivious to the anger of the fans. It has been 10 months since the cancellation announcements and the fan outrage continues to grow. No company in their right mind would want this kind of bad PR.

I read that Disney believes ABC viewers left when Ms. O left. I don’t believe that to be the case. I believe ABC started loosing viewers after they cancelled AMC and OLTL. The AMC fans have not been as vocal in the past as the OLTL fans . Why? Because everyone was lead to believe the day time dramas would be returning in January 2012 (of course that didn’t happen) Now AMC and OLTL fans have ban together. I know ABC/D would love for us fans to shut up and go away—-Well, we will not shut up but we have gone away ( to other networks). I think CBS and NBC should send thank you cards to ABC for sending them so many new views — KARMA don’t ya just love it!

They keep saying they are but that’s right when the ratings come out for February sweeps I don’t think either one of those shows from 1-3 on ABC will be on the list and if they are they will be at the bottom. What’s the point? If you’re a soap viewer, you’re a soap viewer, and you want to watch stories, not reality television. Personally, I’ll only watch scripted television during my lunch break, and ABC disappointed me greatly with the cancellations. If there’s not a soap on for my lunch break, I’ll just read whatever book I’m reading at the time. People like stories. Let’s hope the network sees the light and keeps General Hospital.

As far as available time slots for General Hospital, I think earlier in the day would be better — either way, my local ABC station has a lot of hours available for it. They’ve got news 4:30am-7. Then GMA 7-9, a local program 9-10, The View 10-11, another local program 11-12, The Spew 12-1, The Revultion 1-2, General Hospital 2-3, Local show 3-3:30, Access hollywood 3:30-4, local news 4-4:30, Jeopardy 4:30-5, then local and ABC news til 6:30…

they really don’t have anything good on by the looks of that daily schedule (besides GH).

I’ll watch GH when OLTL stars come over and when the good old GH stars come back. Other than that I only watch Castle if it’s a new show. Nothing else on ABC. DisneyWorld trip cancelled too!

Wish I knew what advertisers are advertising all the hours of the day on ABC, so I knew exactly what not to buy! Guess I’ll have to buy store brand or plain label!

I’m sure most, if not all of the cast would come back from both shows. I don’t know how it works with ABC owning the rights to the shows…if that means the characters names and everything associated with AMC or OLTL is owned by ABC…but I’m sure the fans wouldn’t mind a few character name changes, as long as we were able to see our favorites on screen again. Since ABC won’t give the rights back to Agnes and won’t admit that they were wrong and return the shows back to the network….Agnes should get together with some other network and make it happen. She has the proven success of both shows, so surely someone would take her seriously. What does everyone else think? LOVE IT ! —Absolutely LOVE reading of this embarrassing daytime TV meltdown.
And may the ratings get even WORSE for Chew and Revolution.

    Let the great boycott continue!

Of course, ABC won’t EVER concede or admit how foolish their decisions have been.
They’ll keep these two loser replacement shows around for quite awhile for pure spite and of course be “tweaking them” along the way. — I don’t care WHAT they do with them at this point.

You know, I’ve been watching more of B&B on CBS (only a 30 minute show) and was just thinking: for many, many years, our daytime soaps WERE only 30 mins each afternoon and the fans stayed happy and content for years and years. 30 minutes of our beloved soaps would be far better than having nothing on at all (like is the case now).

Too bad no consideration, SERIOUS consideration, was never given to returning to this half-hour format before totally axing classic soaps like GL, ATWT, AMC, and our latest beloved OLTL ! I mean, if it boiled down to SAVING our soaps, wouldn’t we be willing to accept a shorter format everyday? I certainly would have!

I guess the nets’ reply would still be……”it’s STILL a matter of too much money to produce a soap.”

One thing about it….if the network daytime period fails sufficiently, their affiliates are losing viewers too, and that doesn’t bode well for local programming FOLLOWING the network hours! Local stations may just be joining in (soon) with our protesting. After all, precious local Nielson ratings are going to be in a “slump” too!

    Reply

    Shelly replied

@Ted, I would certainly support a half hour format. A good friend of mine watches only B & B during the day. She told me she likes it because it fits perfect with her schedule and she doesn’t have to invest a lot of time. Oh and you can bet the local affiliates are paying attention. How could they not? I know I just viewed my affiliate’s home page and while several daytime shows are being promoted, replacement #2 is not. The dye was cast on Friday the 13th when they posted the FB question “are you excited for Monday’s debut of the ______?”. OMG, you should’ve seen the responses. All except one or two blasting the cancellation of OLTL, and people saying NO we want our OLTL!! You bet theyre paying attention.

I am done with ABC daytime. They chose to screw the loyal soap viewers so why would we want to waste our time on the crap they offer? I refuse to get involved with General Hospital only to have it taken away eventually. I don’t trust ABC after this horrific betrayal.

    SCREW ABC!!!!!!

We are going to have to BAN abc 100% other than GH, the whole 3 million of us UNTIL we see some ACTION…! THEY not bringing the shows back, BUT we can KEEP ON until they hand over rights and give it back to Agnes Nixon. This is what we have to fight for. I think Tyler Perry might decide to take on the soaps, he’s starting his own Network, and his movies are soaps Madia, and all. I’m going to suggest it to him.

The “Chew” is a terrible show. The cast members all talk too much and Carla Hall ‘s constant eye popping and body contortions are revolting. The hysterical laughter always displayed by one of the cooks (the bald one) for no particular reason is extremely annoying too. Too bad AMC is gone. This is a bad replacement, mainly due to the “cooks” involved.

Awful show. They talk over each other, whoop & holler, it is so loud & annoying. The spend an hour each day making fools of themselves. Downright embarrassing. Have they ever watched themselves? The Chew & The Revolution are two of the worst shows ever & I would say this no matter what timeslot they were in. But to have them replace our soaps is just beyond comprehension.
