The Young and the Restless is kicking their 40th anniversary celebration up a notch starting on Monday, March 11th. For three weeks, each new Y&R episode will be prefaced by a brief on-camera interview with one of the show’s stars.

TV Line has the first one with Daytime Emmy winner Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott) posted exclusively.  “The videos are a love letter to longtime fans and will also help new viewers develop a greater appreciation for the fascinating history of these iconic characters,” said Y&R’s executive producer, Jill Farren Phelps.

Other “love letter” videos to expect leading up to Y&R 40 on March 26th are with: Eric Braeden (Victor), Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki), Michelle Stafford (Phyllis), Christian LeBlanc (Michael), Joshua Morrow (Nicholas), Sharon Case (Sharon), Jeanne Cooper (Katherine), Doug Davidson (Paul), Kristoff St. John (Neil), Daniel Goddard (Cane), Billy Miller (Billy) and Michael Muhney (Adam).

Let us if you are excited to see these pre-episode retropectives?

I wish they could somehow bring back Jamie lynn Bauer ex Lauralee for a brief story arc to celebrate the shows 40th plus Jills brothers Snapper and Greg and a few others from the shows past. Then id feel itll b worth celebrating almost as much as GHs 50th which is far more exciting with some of their vets paying a visit.

I agree, Jim. A GH viewer since 1973, I am LOVING all the returns from every decade of the show! I only first tuned into Y&R in 1978…I NEVER liked how the show’s first families, the Brooks and Fosters–except Jill, who many re-writes and story twists later isn’t really even a Foster–were all written out and forgotten. NOT good soap opera. Tells me in another decade or so they will choose to forget the Williams and Abbott families, too. I think they should have long ago introduced a beautiful young girl as Jennifer Foster, the daughter of Snapper Foster & Chris Brooks. She could’ve come to Genoa City to attend college and stayed with her “aunt” Jill! Or even Snapper’s older son, Chuckie. AND I’d love to see Jamie Lyn Bauer back as Laurie Brooks again, along with Brooks Prentiss, the young boy who siblings & lovers Laurie, Lance, Leslie & Lucas fought over as a child! I like Jess Walton, but divas or not, this show should hire back Brenda Dickson and Victoria Rowell as Jill and Drucilla and pit their characters against each other so the actresses can duke it out with each other if need be and viewers can be thrilled by Dickson’s Jill versus Kay Chancellor once more and the return of Dru!!

Yeah, it would be nice if these shows stayed a little more with their history and brought in the next generation of foster children. And it does feel like the Williams and Abbots will slowly disappear like you said, except for maybe Jack.

I hope it comes out Summer is jacks and Dru comes back and Dylan is Sharons brother. Sharon and Adam are the super couple of the show. That is what Im hanging on still for

I am so proud to be a Y&R Fan! The Young and the Restless is so much more than a television show. Y&R is family and the writers and actors do an amazing job of embodying the human condition. Here’s to 40 more years!

Nine men, but only 4 women chosen? 70% male. Why not, it’s reflecting who’s valued on the show, and the older female vets are not. The have picked their tokens & have traded the rest in for some younger models. Nikki can’t even be in the 40th Anniversary photo on the CBS website , Victor must be pictured with Chelsea and Avery’s breasts in stead of Nikki. How that does that have anything to do with the 40th. they have Summer doing a memorable moment video for the 40th. What does she have to remember? I guess they think 60 year old male executives are watching Y&R everyday because it seems to be their target audience. Most women over 50 I know don’t feel older woman are no longer important to anyone.

This is VERY exciting news, but I’m a bit put off by relegating Jess Walton’s interview segment to one of the “other 16″ interviews, and not airing before a show. Slap in the face, if you ask me!

Seems to me that its an easy way for JFP to save money. At the end of three weeks that’s probably going to equal one episode worth of time spent just talking to a camera. It seems a bit tacky. These should be online exclusives or a full one hour retrospective. Not just cutting into the actual airtime of the show.

I began watching Y&R when Eric Braeden joined the cast, I believe that it was in 1980. Had been a long time fan of his from the mid sixtys, so was thrilled when he joined Y&R. Each actor is so perfect to play his or her particular character, and the characters are so clearly defined. Love them all, but I must admit that my very favorites are Eric Braeden ofcourse, Melody Thomas Scott, Joshua Morrow, Billy Miller ( love Billy Boy), Peter Bergman, Michelle Stafford, Michael Muhney,Amelia Heinle, Christian La Blanc and Kristoff St. John, Marsie Rylan, Gregg Rigart, but everyone is wonderful. The new Faith is precious, all the new young actors are great.

Same here- they got me hooked with the story line of Victor keeping that poor guy locked in his basement to keep him away from his precious Julia- kept me entertained ever since- hope the show makes it to its 50th.

Saw the first one today here in Canada- well done– lots of good clips- it doesn’t really eat into too much of the show- nice little treat that everyone can enjoy. Looking forward to seeing the others.

Daniel Goddard ,Billy Miller, Michael Muhney should have been replaced by Jess Walton, Tracy Bergman & Lauralee Bell. After all out of respect alone LB should have been allowed to speak for the fact their would be no Y&R without Bill Bell and his wife Lee. All three ladies have the longest tenure with the show over the three guys just mentioned. Congrats Y&R!
