For the ratings week ending February 22nd, the CBS Daytime line-up of sisters soaps, The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful scored some very impressive total viewing audience numbers and in key demos.  And in the case of Y&R, it’s biggest audience since over a year, and for B&B, it’s biggest audience in 8 years!

First, The Young and the Restless averaged a whopping 5.58 for the ratings week.  That performance is up +7% from last year, and its largest audience since the week ending January, 31st 2014.

Among women demographics, Y&R was up +5% in women 25-54 (2.2/12 from 2.1/12), +15% in women 18-49 (1.5/09 from 1.3/09) and +17% in women 18-34 (0.7/05 from 0.6/05), all best since the week ending January 31st, 2014.

Meanwhile, The Bold and the Beautiful scored its best week since February 16th, 2007, which was 8 years ago!  B&B averaged 4.18 million viewers! That is up +10% from a year ago. It was also up +13% in women 25-54 (1.7/09 from 1.5/08) from a year ago.

Let’s Make a Deal and The Talk, to other major shows in the CBS Daytime programming block, also scored their largest weekly audiences in over a year! And for “Deal”, their most watched week ever.

What do you think about Y&R and B&B’s audience numbers? Seems like no matter how many people were complaining about the Sweeps storylines, it looks like they were tuning-in in droves! Share your thoughts below!

How sad. This is the final nail in the coffin for Bill Bell’s vision of Y&R. Now it’s just a silly stunt soap, like PASSIONS. Terrible stories, awful acting, and low production values made it look like a satirical knock-off of soap operas. Sadly, the joke is on the audience, but as you can see, many delusional Y&R Lovers will eat up any crap that’s served them. This is not good for the long term life of Y&R. Phelps and Pratt will eventually kill this once fine show.

Michael Muhney’s talent created a great character in Adam Newman. If not for his fine work, Justin Hartley wouldn’t have a role to play. Your disrespect for Mr. Muhney is an example of why soap fans are held in such low regard.

    Sammie replied

Really? When they created the role of Adam, if JH had auditioned he would have gotten the role, MM has done nothing to pave the way for anyone.
I never respect men who grope.
Just exactly WHO holds soap fans in such low regard and why would I care what they think?

    Uncle Ray replied

Oh brother, Sammie give it a rest. That train has left the station long ago. Try to move on, everybody else has. No one wants to revisit that mess. The reality is that Muhney did a great job as Adam. Hartley walked into a great role. Enjoy it and stop denigrating Mr. Muhney. He’s a terrific actor. Stifle yourself.

Good for B&B. I started watching in August after losing interest in Days, and I haven’t been disappointed. The stories are overall pretty great. Liam’s my favorite character at this point, but there are many that I like. I’m glad I started watching the show when I did.

I think Katherine Kelly Lang’s fantastic acting as Drunk Brooke has helped increase the ratings for The Bold and the Beautiful. She’s portraying Brooke as a drunk to perfection and it’s incredibly entertaining to watch, and yet the underlying issue is so tragic. That said, being so much fun to watch and creating such a buzz online helps to raise awareness to the subject of alcoholism and hopefully it’ll make people seek help for themselves or their loved ones who are struggling with substance abuse. Very well done, Kelly!!!

    Chrystie Delancey replied

I was surprised the “perfection” did not have Brooke falling down the stairs after she was mincing around at the top of them yesterday. Also, she acted pretty alert for a drunk when she was about to kiss Deacon.

I guess I have never been “Brooke’s” kind of drunk. Well, I have never been drunk before, only tipsy, but I have seen actual drunk people and they do not act like that.

I disagree that this will raise awareness for alcoholism because it is not being taken seriously. Maybe if they do some PSAs after the show, but just because she will go to AA or whatever, I do not see this changing the world because while the actress may be entertaining to some, to others she makes her character come off even more pathetic than before.

The character of Brooke needs to be stripped to the bones and built back up. She is a mother, so why doesn’t she freaking act like it? It is hard to watch something so pathetic and hypocritical. All she does is make me fast forward her scenes and I know I am not the only one.

It’s good to see the ratings up. It looks like Y&R’s heavily promoted Flirt With Disaster event brought in viewers. B&B had the Katie and Bill wedding which intrigued the audience. The President’s Day Holiday, and the bad winter weather aided daytime tv.

  7. Geoffrey-Martin Cyr says:

Sadly, TPTB often confuse audience NUMBERS with audience INTEREST; the fact that we were watching ‘our stories’ isn’t necessarily a validation that what we were seeing on-screen was something we were at all enjoying or endorsing. Pratt is sure to spin this around to say that Y&R viewers ‘prefer’ his brash, plot-based, shock-laden storytelling to the nuanced, layered, character-driven fare that has kept the show #1 for more than a quarter century.

Same with sister-show B&B: it’s all-triangles, all-the-time. Just when we could exhale after the protracted Liam/Hope/Wyatt go-round, now we see Ivy/Liam/Steffy revving-up. I miss when Bill Bell wrote tyhe show and spread the storylines around instead of focusing on one or two stories, telling them into the ground or (better still) abandoning them midstream and moving on to something else. Watching BOLD has been a chore for me for many years now … but I can’t let go of these last two remaining shows (…having ‘buried’ EDGE, LOL, SEARCH, CAP, GL and ATWT already!)

The last thing Y&R needed was a ratings boost to validate Pratt’s craptacular disaster storytelling. I may be in the minority but I thought last week was one of the worst viewing weeks in the almost 30 years i’ve been watching and obviously prefer the latter kind of storytelling in Mr. Cyr’s comment which like he said has kept Y&R #1 for more than a quarter century. I fear dark days ahead for viewers like us.

    Geoffrey-Martin Cyr,

Sadly, I’m with you. I knew the ratings would spike. This show’s never seen action like this before.
    This is my opinion:
I like that the disasters happened with large groups of cast. ALL of the disasters started of well: Neil confronting Hilary & Devon, wacky hi-jinks at The Underground, the younger crowd trying to get along at a cabin in a snowstorm w/alcohol & Austin falling out of the closet, dead. Gabe saving Connor & ugh, Billy in the ph fire- BUT..THEN…
    EVERYTHING WENT OFF THE RAILS!!!!
Lily, cancer survivor & heroine, didn’t even acknowledge a plane full of her loved ones & her crashed & she had been buried in snow in the middle of nowhere, on the verge of death, out cold. She opened her eyes and said to the only family member that even looked for her & dug her out, her husband, “you lied to me.” BOOM! Crash & Burn. It never recovered from there. The writing was absolutely HORRIBLE. Lily, is a fierce, loving wife & mother but no mention til 4 or 5 days later of “what if we die & our children are orphans?” She was just FEMALE on Pratt’s script page: “Wife fights with husband.” None of her remaining 4 family members looked for, just Cane. 1 person needed to stay w/Hilary. Still, just Cane looked.
Nick & Sage joked & kissed as debris from HIS bldng fell on them. No thought mom&dad & his bar full of patrons may be dead.
Joe & Avery trapped but Joe- NO reaction. None. He was about to be electrocuted & Avery was unplugging things, hysterical, while he casually tried to stroll down memory lane w/her just like he does when they’re sitting around at CL’s chatting over coffee. ????? These are things you do AFTER you are trapped for hrs & are on the verge of death. THEN you kiss, reminisce, ect. 1st, you dig, scream for help, cry, pray. Nikki & Victor were the only ones doing that!
Billy had NO REACTION. He moved like grandpa while Chelsea fled w/NOT her baby ???, Billy grabbed his cane, er..and Connor, but passed out. Gabe swooped in & saved them, but Billy still has NO REACTION. Billy doesn’t cry, shake, look for family outside cuz he almost died. He just starts asking Gabe about his past cuz he doesn’t like him. Screw his family. Brutally honest, Mariah, who wouldn’t even tell a tiny lie for her mom, leads the charge to lie for her enemy who she thinks just murdered her husband. The script said must’ve said: “random kids at cabin decide to lie about the murder so their friend won’t go to jail.” Pratt has NO idea the interrelationships of these characters.
Props were fake. Confetti for snow. They took the props from the local high school drama dept. The police chief couldn’t read a map. Dylan, PTSD sufferer, coffee house owner, had free reign to conduct the rescue missions. Outside help wasn’t called for days. Poof, Austin’s body is gone, so he’s not dead, which makes the # of castmembers dead from these “DISASTERS”=0. The disasters had no purpose, no substance.
I This was the worst week of shows I’ve ever seen of Y&R & the worst of all 4 soaps last week. NEVER said that before. Y&R will never be able to mock GH again. Cartini looks golden right now. I will keep them at GH and Y&R keep Pratt-we’ve already had him killing off our most popular cast members at GH. I can only imagine what’s next since his ego is probably OTT right now.
I PREDICT Y&R FANS WON’T STAND FOR THIS CHARACTER ASSASSINATION. MARK…MY….WORDS!!!!

Bravo! Encore! You said everything I have been thinking and more.

Shock and aww will only get you so far and then you need GOOD writing to sustain whatever momentum you received.

It is no different than all the people that turned to NBC years ago (I was one of them) to see Conan O’Brien take over the Tonight Show. I watched the first episode and that was it. I never went back because I was just curious. But the ratings reflected it was a “hit” and blah, blah, blah. And what happened a few days later? Ratings began to plummet. Conan was fired and Jay Leno hired back.

But this is what the media does these days. Like NBC’s new wannabe The Americans. This show, Allegiance, is BAD. So now that the ratings stink, the ads say that “The Blacklist viewers are watching.” They can’t say the ratings are great and they can only make this claim because only a small percentage of Blacklist viewers actually stay to watch that show. And as my husband pointed out, the ones who stay for Allegiance are probably only watching because they cannot find their remote control to change the channel.

This is the same thing here. CBS ran these tragedy promos for Y&R and viewers checked it out for curiosity sake. When the writing reflects the character assassinations that we have going on with the new regime, the viewers are going to leave. I’m with you, Geoffrey-Martin Cyr, I want my characters to act HUMAN and to say and do things that HUMANS would do in a situation like that. Instead of sniping at her husband, Lily should have supported him and everyone else instead of acting like a toddler and running to her daddy’s arms. It does not make sense and I don’t buy it.

I will probably continue to watch because I like the escape that soaps give me, but it is the character development that gives me the rush. I’m not getting much of a rush these days.

Y&R did promote, promote, promote.. good move, for sure..
Everybody loves and stops and looks at a train wreck…
We can not resist the car crashes either lol ..
A good tragedy will get attention every time / CNN plane crash tragedy- their ratings went up with their coverage of the ”plane crash” tragedy, also.. people like watching that stuff, apparently.. Pratt followed the golden road to ratings, good move!! lol

I liked the underground much better than the plane, tragedy..
The cabin fiasco was bad, really sucky campy bad..
Good to have Kyle back looking forward to him.. :)
Feel sorry for him if he has to around the wailing banshee Summer.. (hope he puts a sock in her) lol

BF’s sister, the BF who pretty much said he has no intention of getting married and she was upset about that? What’s in it for her? Kyle is suddenly going to be a murderer? Abby and Austin? I don’t think so.

There are so many shows that replaced soaps and I understand how you feel.

I have watched LMAD and Wayne Brady is actually quite good. It is a game show and it fits in with TPIR and Drew Carey from their old Whose Line is it Anyway days. In LA it airs in the morning when no soaps are on, but when I see ads for The Talk or The Chew, they really make me sick because they are just more nonsensical talk shows which also took away soaps. How much talking do we need?

What really gets me is my local affiliate for CBS, CBS 2, will promote stupid, The Talk, but does not mention one peep about Y&R being on after their broadcast. The Talk does not air for another hour, but they get the plug and not Y&R.

However, my local NBC affiliate, NBC 4, they promote Days of Our Lives after their broadcast. I am surprised that Sony allows this to happen because it is CBS’ job as distributor to promote the show.

Now B &B Wow I hope there is a takeover and Rick & Mya are put out of the Forester house along with the office. It’s time for Eric to retire if he’s getting weak in business decisions. Brook being drunk is funny but I hope that she doesn’t get Ridge back I love him with Caroline & I like Decan & Quinn together. I would like to see Liam & Steffy back together even though I like Ivy.
