As written, the series came full circle to a conclusion which saw justice being served, when Adam is sentenced to ten years in prison, after he is found guilty of felony hit-and-run in the death of Delia.
During the sentencing phase, a distraught Kevin took the stand in a touching performance by Greg Rikaart. Kevin tells the court he wants the entire book thrown at Adam for taking away his stepdaughter. He goes on to tell the judge that he can’t forgive Adam for having the answers to what happened to Delia all that time, and hiding it. Kevin adds that Adam showed no compassion and should be punished to the full extent of the law. After the judge hands down his sentence, Kevin utters, “It’s not enough.”
Meanwhile, Billy (Burgess Jenkins) who blames himself for his negligence in Delia’s death, talks to Delia at her tree in Chancellor Park with Victoria (Amelia Heinle) in tow. Victoria tells Billy he is still so angry and he has to forgive himself. She relates: “You told Delia the anger was gone. Don’t lie to her.” The leaves on the tree begin to move. Billy says Delia’s finally at peace. As a vision of Delia says, “I love you daddy.”
As Adam (in another star turn by Justin Hartley) deals with his fate and excepts his punishment, he is ramanded into custody to be transported to the state pentitiary for his crimes. As Adam is leaving the courthouse steps to cross to where the police van is, viewers see a car with a gloved hand at the steering wheel driving full force with headlines on straight into Adam! In a “fitting end” to the trial and this storyline that provided over two years of Y&R story, Adam is now the victim of a hit and run himself! As his family watched in horror, Adam goes down.
So now the question is, who was behind the sterring wheel that wanted Adam dead? Suspects that come to mind are: Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson), Ian (Ray Wise), Billy (Burgess Jenkins), Esther (Kate Linder), and Kevin (Greg Rikaart)! But could it be someone else?
