63 May 30th, 2013 Thursday’s Episode of One Life to Live – # 1 On Hulu & # 1 On iTunes!

Courtesy/TOLN

Today’s episode of One Life to Live featured the mystery building surrounding the Pellegrino Fund, as something is amiss with that look Jeffrey gave to the documents at Viki’s!

Elsewhere, Natalie and Cutter shared their first hot and heavy kiss, during a Club Shelter blackout, Kassie DePaiva sang her tune, “No Regrets” as Blair to Todd, and Snoop Lion dispensed advice to Bo Buchanan on what to do about his son, Matthew!  The advice came after Clint hit below the belt to his brother during the family poker game!

And with all that, and the action in Llanview, there was great news for One Life to Live this morning too! For the first time One Life to Live was in the number one most watched episode of the day on Hulu, as well as number one on iTunes for top television seasons! All My Children came in at number two on iTunes as well!

Could this mean that the reduction in episodes is actually helping people tune-in?  Could fans of both AMC and OLTL be sharing the love with each other and watching both soaps now more than before, because of the re-positioning of the viewing schedule?  Or, is One Life picking up steam in story?

Watch today’s episode of One Life to Live below! Then let us know, what did you enjoy the most on today’s episode? Kassie singing? Snoop Lion’s heart-to-heart with Bo? Roger Howarth as Todd Manning?  The Club Shelter blackout debacle?  Weigh-in!

Sorry to be cynical, but until/unless I actually see some numerical proof of how many are truly watching, I won’t believe that these shows are working. I still don’t trust Prospect Park in what they’re doing with this endeavor. Supposedly, each show needs at least 500,000 views for Prospect Park to at least break even, and I highly doubt that they’re averaging that and that this high ranking will keep up. They can put whatever spin they want on this, but cutting the number of episodes will almost certainly lessen overall interest as the weeks go on. They would not have done that if they were making $$$ in the first few weeks, IMO.

I know that initially it was 4 episodes per week compared to 2 now, but these shows started out near the top of Hulu/iTunes in the first week and sharply fell off right after that, so I take this news item with a huge grain of salt.

If 500,000 is all they need I bet they exceed that easily. The shows are working, they are on and that is all some of us true fans need. We’ll wait patiently for PP to get all the glitches out. I’m enjoying them even tho’ I can do without Cutter any time.

That’s just your opinion that the shows are working on the internet. Not everyone agrees with you on that, and I wouldn’t be so certain that these shows will average 500,000 viewers over time. Just more wishful thinking from delusional soap fans.

Excuse me, I have every right to my opinion and to express it here. If you don’t like that- tough.

Not everyone is waving the soap pom-poms about this. Just because the shows are back on, that does not mean that they’re done well. I won’t go out of my way to keep watching and supporting something that does not hold my interest, just for the sake of keeping the show on and the actors/crew employed. If you can’t tolerate an opinion that differs from yours, then go somewhere else.

Look, it’s a free country and I’m allowed to express my opinion without you or anyone else bullying me in return. If you cannot tolerate a different opinion without reacting like an immature crybaby, then go somewhere else. Do you talk like that to people in your real life? Not everyone is a rah-rah cheerleader.

If the shows are doing “very well” online as you say, where is the proof? How many people are actually viewing the shows? I don’t think it’s enough for Prospect Park to at least break even. They’re not being totally honest with the public about how this endeavor is truly going, IMO.

And there are NOT “millions of fans” watching the soaps online, LOL. There’s not that many die-hard fans left. If “millions of fans” were still watching these shows, ABC never would’ve cancelled them in the first place. Get real and come back to planet Earth, please.

  5. AJ says:

The show is getting high ratings because the DIE-HARD fans will continue to support these shows no matter what.. has nothing to do with this ‘less is more’ bullsh*t. AMC and OLTL were in the top 3 their first 2 weeks.. never dropping out of the top 10 for Hulu or iTunes. No matter how much the ‘powers that be’ mistreat us, we stay loyal to these shows because they’re like family.

    Reply

    Nick replied

If these reboots are getting such “high ratings” as you say, then why did Prospect Park feel it was necessary to cut the number of episodes for both shows in half just three weeks in? Why did they change the head writers of both shows less than a month in? Please explain that. It sent a clear message that Prospect Park is in way over their heads. After all, they had almost two years (!) to try to make this project work. I don’t believe that they’re telling the whole story about this endeavor and its profitability. Something smells very fishy.

And the problem with these shows and this genre in general is that the die-hard fans are the only people left who are interested in them, and that group keeps smaller and smaller every day. That won’t be enough for them to survive. With the storylines now moving at an even more snail-like pace over the course of a typical week, I expect viewership and interest to fall off even more as the weeks move on.

where can you see how many views a show has gotten – on Hulu and iTunes?? I’m curious too.

on another note… since OLTL is online, I’ve been watching more TV on Hulu or other sites… including a double helping of General Hospital. Watch it on my recording… and if it’s extra good, watch it again online. Have been watching more ABC shows than I usually watch on my TV (via digital tuner) including old shows like Twin Peaks & Dark Shadows, and other network shows like CupCake Wars and ghost hunter type shows… funny that I see that ABC has started a Streaming Live deal online, but you will have to have a subscription to a TV service to get it… like cable or dish. What? I’ve been getting TV rabbit ears, then a digital tuner – watched OLTL and GH with no problem…

now I can watch “cable” shows on line….. thanks to being there for OLTL!

On that one point and question of “do you feel that cutting back on episodes has caused more people to tune in” I leave that for others to answer. I’ve been watching One Life since episode One on-line and it needs some work. The storyline really REALLY needs to be more compelling. I don’t like that the show is only on twice a week in less than 28 min. increments, but so be it for now. I still think the endless scenes at Shelter are a bore (sorry) and the dialogue between the three young room mates pilots in circles but doesn’t seem to land anywhere. I hope the new writing team is able to breathe some LIFE into One Life to Live.

No one knows how many actual views a show may get. This appears to be closely held information. I would be surprised if the shows get 500,000 views but we really have no idea. Cutting episodes produced and aired suggest they are not getting the targeted numbers.

Glad that Oltl hit #1 I was surprised they weren’t always doing better than AMC since before their ratings were slightly higher. I credit this all to Kassie DePaiva & Roger Howarth. Matthew & Dani are annoying & a poor representation of our youth. Not everyone under 25 drinks till their stupid. Robert Woods & the vets were driving the show today. History & chemistry reigned supreme & that’s what’s going to keep them #1

Is that the way you talk to real people in your life who don’t agree with you about something? If so, I wouldn’t want to be in your shoes. Here’s a tip: grow up!! For crying out loud, these are just silly TV shows, not living, breathing people.

This is exactly why so many average, mainstream people in the real world think that soap fans are so hopelessly out of touch.

Cutter and Natalie are more interesting than the 3 amigos. The writers need to move the romance with Danni and Matthew and Destiny and Jeffrey. Brucey has been given more lines. Blair and Todd are magical and her singing was actually good and very soapy. The Buchanans rule along with Vicki was a good use of the remaining vets . Snoop pulled in new viewers and loyal fans . One Life is better than AMC — more original cast members and a basic good start; Sheltter, not my favorite spot, is a draw fowhereas AMC

Great news! Please recast John McBain and bring back as many Buchanans as possible. Love to see Max Holden, Roxy, Marcy and Michael and Christian Vega. Alco need TSJ as a regular. Don’ t think Silas Clay will work out on GH. Please start wooing Michael Easton back. Michael and Melissa belong together. I would recast Jessica with Erin if Bree’s not available and try a Jess/Christian coupling again.

I am confused? Before they were #1and#2 with AMC leading so they had to reduce it to 2 days a week! But now they are #1and #2 with OLTO leading, so now its working with less days? Really! Please just don’t address this issue anymore! I hate to be treated like I am stupid!

Even though I love, love , love OLTO, the storyline lately is tooooo slow! Too many fillers! Hope its because the new writers are doing some revamping! I will continue to watch because I want it to succeed and stay! Side note: what happened between the deal with RH doing both OLTO and GH? Was Blair singing no regrets because this was his last day on OLTO?

Jean, I agree with you – the pace is sooo slow, it’s like, c’mon already. I too hope that the writers are planning something. Furthermore, and if people take this comment as being too negative, I’m sorry but twice a week does not a soap make, if it was five times a week and just a half hour then maybe – but it’s not on enough to REALLY GRAB a viewer’s interest. I also think the scenes at Shelter dominate the show too much and don’t really go anywhere. In fact, NOTHING seems to go anywhere, I don’t get it – the 3 roommates stand around talking in circles and that seems to be about it – what is it leading up to – and I think they could give Erika Slezak more to do then just say “I need to save the Banner”. They state that the shows on-line are at a much “faster pace”. They are? This is considered a “faster pace”?

Yes Thursday’s show was not alot to write home about, we had OLTL back now for more than a month.

Any episode with Viki/Clint/Bo/Nora/David/Blair/Todd is worth it to me. They are my TV family, and sometimes we don’t like whats going on in our family – but we stick with them.

Lets use this good news to help promote the show with our friends and family..

This episode was pretty good. It didn’t have as much foul language as previous episodes. I agree with the other comments though. If it’s #1, why did they really reduce the number of episodes? They also changed the writers for both OLTL and AMC. I believe there is more going on behind the scenes. I hope the show continues to be successful, and eventually lead to more episodes per week and 60 minutes. If successful, maybe they can be on TV in a year. Would love to see more original OLTL characters on the show and see more of Victor.

I watched ‘One Life to Live’s last 20 years. I was sad when it ended. But now you are all back on Hulu! I admit I am behind in watching, but knowing the characters, I can pretty well keep up. I wanted to tell you that I met Catherine Hickland who portrayed Linsey Reppaport. It will be 2 years ago this coming November. My lady friend and I were about to leave the fair when we saw there was going to be a hypnotist show. and with just one seat left right in front, I grabbed it. When Miss Hickland came on stage, my mouth dropped! I have never had such a feeling of such joy in my life over another person. After the show I walked up on stage to her, and we had a great conversation. I shared with Kathryn that I have sung professionally for Jesus Christ for (then) 47 years since I received Him into my heart, repenting of my sins. She took my hand, walked over to my lady friend, and we had a picture taken of us 3! When I shared more about my life with Jesus, Catherine promised me that she would call me! I gave her my ministry card. To this day I have not heard from Katherine. I still pray for her, and that she will call me. I ALSO ASK: Weill Katherine be back on One life to Live playing Lindsey? Let me know. She is a great lady. Sincerely, Bob Bateman, Gospel singer for Jesus.
