307 January 4th, 2014 TMZ Reports Michael Muhney Fired From Y&R For Allegedly Groping Co-Star’s Breasts On Two Occasions!

The entertainment news and gossip outlet TMZ.com has picked up the story on the firing of former The Young and the Restless star Michael Muhney (Adam Newman).  The very popular star with fans of the long running number one soap opera, was shown the front door last month under much speculation as to the root cause for his dismissal.

Now according to TMZ.com:  “Multiple sources connected to the show tell TMZ … 38-year-old Muhney allegedly bullied and harassed 20-year-old Hunter King, who plays Summer on the show.  She went to higher-ups and complained recently Muhney had fondled her breasts on 2 occasions — and she said both were unsolicited and unwanted.”

In addition, TMZ.com went on to say: “Sources tell us … the new allegations were the proverbial ‘straw that broke the camel’s back.’  Muhney — who is married with 3 kids — had been a problem on the set for a long time, allegedly bullying and harassing Hunter and others. ”

While this may not come as new news to soap fans, who have seen the situation between Hunter King and Muhney popping up everywhere on message boards and through the rumor mill, this report would align with several cast members of The Young and the Restless who have come to the defense of maligned Y&R executive producer Jill Farren Phelps, for the person not to be pointing the finger at for the firing of Muhney.

So, in light of this report from TMZ.com, do you think Y&R took the appropriate action by dismissing Muhney?  Weigh-in!

I FEEL SO BAD FOR THIS POOR VICTIM . THEY ARE GOING AFTER HUNTER AKA SUMMER ON TWITTER WITH STICKS AND STONES. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THEY ARE WRITING THIS YOUNG GIRL AND CALLING HER UGLY NOT TALENTED AND THE WORST THINGS. IF MICHAEL MUHNEY WAS A REAL MAN HE WOULD PUT ON TWITTER LEAVE HUNTER ALONE AND HE IS GUILTY. SHAME ON MICHAEL MUHNEY. SHE IS BEING MOLESTED ALL OVER AGAIN. PEOPLE MAKE ME SO SICK. SHAME ON ALL THESE HATEFUL FOOLISH PEOPLE WRITING THIS POOR YOUNG GIRL WHO WAS ABUSED. I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THIS GIRL WOULD PUT HERSELF THROUGH THIS IF IT WAS A LIE. By Michael Muhney staying quiet and letting this girl be a victim all over again he is really a coward. At least come forward and deny or admit but do not let this girl be ambushed! Id love to see what these same bashers would say if it happened to there daughter.

    JulieA replied

Well Mrs. C (God rest her soul) can touch the guys butts then maybe he was picking up on what she use to do but in a different area of the body. The guys did not complain about this prank….just saying she did it out of love. Maybe he was doing the same thing. I don’t think someone as intelligent as MM would do this intentionally to hurt Hunter. She may have just freaked out, especially since he did it with someone right there (Fen). Just takes the bad out of it if u do it in front of somebody and makes it more of a prank.

    JENNY replied

JulieA: SHAME ON YOU FOR DEFENDING THIS PERVERTED CREEP! How could you possibly excuse his behavior as being “a prank”? A MAN WOULD NEVER “PRANK” A FEMALE BY TOUCHING ANY OF HER PRIVATE AREAS. The victim was FEMALE. She doesn’t have the same physical ability to defend herself as he does. She is also very young and doesn’t have as much life experience which is why they say it took her sometime to come forward.

He had been intimidating this poor girl and telling her sexual obscenities for a while now even before he started groping her.

She’s very brave for coming forward at all (even though I wish she would have done it even sooner). I commend her for that. You sound like those obsessed teenage girl fans who defended Justin Bieber when he peed in that poor custodian’s mop bucket. But at least that actually was a prank – and not sexual harassment! I guess you’re even worse than those “Beliebers’.

THERE IS NEVER ANY EXCUSE FOR A MAN GROPING OR TOUCHING A FEMALE WITHOUT HER CONSENT. NEVER.

    *****VERONICA MARS***** replied

    THIS ISN’T HIS FIRST TIME:

He was supposedly fired from the tv show VERONICA MARS prior to landing his role on Y&R due to inappropriate behavior towards female employees on set who were just trying to do their jobs. They say he also leaked script information to VERONICA MARS fans online and didn’t get along with the rest of the cast (not just the ladies who he groped or manhandled – but also the majority of everyone else). So this new info about him isn’t at all surprising given his past.

    DidjaNoit replied

I agree. And I also think, if it’s true, those people threatening to stop watching Y&R in support of MM, might take a pause and consider what they are really supporting. I don’t like losing actors from the show, but better an actor than the show itself! JMO

All of you obsessed women that are STILL defending this perv, ask yourselves how you would feel if it was your 19-year-old daughter or niece that was sexually harassed by Michael Muhney …

Would you STILL be defending him?

I swear these Muhney followers are worse than those that followed their idol Jim Jones to the grim reaper.

    4everDAYS replied

People should not quit watching Y & R over MM being fired.
They should quit watching Y & R be cause Y & R protected MM until they could write the exit story and let him play it out.

Remember: The harassment happened twice. Once it happened, they started writing his exit and allowing him to stay and play it out. They subjected HK to unspeakable acts for the sake of their show. Crazy!!! They only turned on him when the end was very close.

They got what they wanted and did not care about HK. The production staff at Y & R is made up of per eyers of filth! They did what they wanted when they wanted!!

You people are disgusting! All you want to do is find fault. It’s Hollywood, people!! Scandals and BS thrive there. Look how many actors have been accused of doing terrible things, but they’re still acting and some should be in prison. If the rumors are even close to the truth, it’s a he said, she said, and that’s probably why the police aren’t involved…and she probably threatened CBS so they let MM go. End of story. Either a little diva got brushed off and retaliated or a star touched her inappropriately and she made an issue out of it even though she loves the attention of flaunting her breasts all over the Internet and on the show. Should anyone be touched without giving permission? No. But, sometimes when you’re flaunting yourself, you may just not like the fact that someone isn’t turned on by you. We’ll never really know the truth anyway. So, some of the actors didn’t like MM. Some are probably jealous that he was nominated for lead actor and they weren’t. That doesn’t make MM a criminal. It’s a soap opera on tv – and in the real world. Publicity is publicity, good or bad. Actors survive and move on, just like Charlie Sheen, Britney, and Lindsay Lohan. Blah, blah, blah. TMZ is trash. They love to dig up dirt. That is where their publicity and money comes from. It’s all a game to make money and it will all blow over as soon as another star does something they want to make into a soap-type scandal. It should have been handled privately, but thanks to rags like TMZ, we can all sit around and comment. Get over it.

What about Jeanne Cooper– all those years she grabbed men’s private parts and asses as well as a few woman breasts— should she had been fired for such behavior? According to you yes. Yet, because she was a legend etc, they swept it under the rug, chalked it up to “fun” and thought it was cute, but the behavior was just as wrong as MM harassing HK if true. I bet plenty of co workers were offended by her behavior by wouldn’t have the nerve to say anything, because they knew they would be told just go along with it, don’t take it so seriously.
But some might say what Jeanne did was different– but how was it different– uninvited touching of private parts is morally wrong no matter what gender or context– doing it for fun doesn’t excuse it. But since they never fired her that means Sony and the producers have some lee way on how they deal with such incidents– condoning some, condemning others as they see fit. Even if true, MM firing was motivated not by those incidents, but something else and these incidents became the excuse, to paint the EP and the show in a positive light and make MM the villain. Because in my life experience I found no one does those things out of the blue. If MM harassed her, it is a sure bet he harassed others along the way– so why was her case so different–?? Because it suited their purposes to fired him this time, if true,or he was never guilty of such things, and the rumor was leaked to ruin his reputation. Sadly we will never really know the truth, but either way, true or not, MM reputation will tarnished by this for the rest of his life.

Yup… TOTALLY AGREE. All of a sudden his “loyal” fans are turning on him? Nope, not me. Maybe Hunter DOES like the attention. Maybe MM just annoyed her and she personally disliked him so she came up with this to GET him fired… Just saying, She is young & I remember being her age, sometimes attention is good & schemeing to get what u want isn’t so hard. And YES Jennie Copper is known for For the SAME THINGS, your totally right! Why didn’t they fire her? To some of us MM is just as important to this show & could have been around JUST as long as Jeannie – I still blame Y&R for not making the right call – maybe they should have fired HUNTER instead.. She’s a newbie, Mixhael deserved to be on the show more then her – I’m sorry, IM NOT BUYING IT! NOT BUYING IT & STILL ALL FOR MM STAYING PUT. Sorry!! Let here what this MAN has to say BEORE we listen to an attention seeking CHILD!!

    Matt D. replied

Sorry but J. Cooper was a old women and Michael Muhney is a grown man grabbing at a young women. Sorry I have no respect for him. Besides they ruined his character by putting him back with Chelsea. Good riddance . Besides allegedly and I say allegedly even know I have personal info for you all that Michael Muhney has written messages to fans prior to this on there twitter pages to leave him alone and he didn’t care who we liked with Adam his alter ego. The man was not all there .

    Mary SF replied

@Matt D— You missed my point, which was groping is commonplace in show business– it is not professional, but if MM did just what they said he did, it would hardly be cause for dismissal in that business– they have ways and means to handle it, just like they did with Jeanne– and she did that stuff when she was younger as well, not just when she was old. And I am sure there have been others over the years unknown to us that it too. So my point was they were looking for a way to get rid of him, and he if did do it, unfortunately he gave them a legit reason to canned him. If they wanted him around, trust me they would have worked out something between the actors involved if the incident was just copping a feel once or twice. So there is either more to what he did or he didn’t do it at all. Personally, I believe it is so unprofessional that I most people with common sense would not even try it, even in jest, especially if you know you are not well liked by your new bosses– it shows even worse judgement to do it. So if he did it- then he really made a poor choice that came to bite him and if he didn’t do it, then someone on the show really must hate him to want to destroy his rep.

    Joshua replied

MarySF, you should be ASHAMED of yourself.

    Mo replied

That’s what I thought–about Jeanne. But I would guess that people did not complain about her, so she got away with it. The guys seemed to laugh it off, as evidenced on her memorial show. I don’t necessarily think it was an appropriate action on her part, but if the guys didn’t mind, then why should TPTB?

    Mary SF replied

@Joshua–I have nothing to be ashamed about. I didn’t say anything that wasn’t true. Groping happens all the time in that business and there is some discretion on how producers etc handle it. I never condone it, all I said it happens. If Steve Burton had done it, I bet money it would have been handled privately and Steve would not have been fired. But if you are looking to get rid of a trouble maker this would be just the reason to show him the door without being the bad guy. But trust me, if they really wanted MM to stay they would have found a way to deal with it– that’s all I’m saying-
Personally, I think every business should a set policy saying touching someone like that even in jest would result in immediate dismissal even if you are beloved soap personality like Jeanne was. A set policy applied equally to everyone– male and female- yet having been in theater and television myself trust me, it happens more often than you might think and there is a lot rug sweeping done– and if MM hadn’t tick off someone about something else, even if he had did it, it would have been swept under the rug too this time, if the tptb wanted him there.

    Sammie Jo replied

She pinched the guys on the butt and they were grown men, not teenagers, plus it was all in fun. There’s a difference between a fun pinch and a suggestive grope, especially when you’ve been warned about doing it previously.
I have never read anywhere that JC groped women’s breasts. I’d like to see that in print.
I have been reading from viewers who watched Veronica Mars, that he was fired from there for doing the same thing to the lead actress, Kristin Belle. I have no idea if that is true or not, just passing on what I was told, allegedly she went to the brass and had him fired.
If he was innocent, don’t you think he’d be shouting it from the rooftops?

    Mary SF replied

@Sammie jo– No it is completely the same thing and she didn’t just pinched bottoms she grabbed their balls and squeezed them. And that is my point– if JC was a man she would have been dealt with. All these incidents, are not fun and it is unprofessional, so why is Jeanne allowed to get away with it and MM is ridicule for it. If he did it front of witnesses like reports say he could hardly been up to anything sinister. Yet, I’ve had my boobs grabbed enough and been told it is all for fun and lighten up to know sometimes you go along, not to make waves, so I am sure some actors did not like what Jeanne did–but wouldn’t say anything. So I am not saying it okay to do it, but all these incidents should be dealt with it the same matter. The only reason he was fired was not because he touched her, but because they wanted to canned him and he gave them a legit reason if true, because it is still just rumor. If as you said he has been doing this for years, then obviously they been letting him get away with for years and only fired him when suited their purposes not to protect Ms.King.
And if more actress and actors would charged these grabbers with sexual assault maybe it will stop, but until then these things will continue with only some people fired when it suits the suits, not because of policy. As for Jeanne- respect her as an actress, but after learning about her unprofessional conduct– I don’t think much of her as a person. As for her grabbing breasts I think one of the actresses mentioned in the memorial show for her, at least that is where I think I heard that, I could be wrong.

    Sherry Billet replied

Yes, she devoted a whole chapter in her book about groping male co-workers…so WHY wasn’t she fired?!!!

    Tim replied

So you believe a twenty year girl over a 38 year old married man with three children? Heres how it went down. She came on to him, he turned her down, she turned the table, accused him of groping, end of story! Sorry Michael, you will be missed. Welcome to the real world. Thanks Hunter!

What does it matter if he is married and has 3 children…that dont make you imune to commiting a horrible act. I had a male relative who had 5 children and was married…it didnt stop him from cheating on his wife and doing horrible perv things…anyway, MM hinted he did something wrong…if he did not do what is alleged…then why isnt he defending himself and sueing the actress and TMZ for false accusations…have both actors take lie detector test. And by the way Tim i never said i agreed with the actress…i said’Then if this the truth’…i wasnt there…only both actors know what really happen…if MM didnt do it then he needs to come forward and say he didnt…so far its not looking so good on his side!!!

@jmh when politicians are accused and if it is true they always get with counsel also take time with their families before they make a statement. It is a sad situation all the way around did not need to happen the soap will go on I am just sick of all the theatrics of it all and it would not have even come close to this if JFP did not have her awful reputation. Even if I find this is true I will be sad but I still do not think JFP is the person to helm Y&R and we did not need everyone to jump on the bandwagon and speak of this for 2 weeks non-stop.

    Sammie Jo replied

Tim: How about this, he came onto her, she told him to buzz off, you’re married, he did it again, she went to Sony about it and they could care less how married he is or how many kids he has, they don’t want a sexual harassment suit. So, bye bye Michael!

When he had his accident, a few years ago, I e-mailed him ‘Get Well Wishes.’ He responded by saying that he was very grateful for my concern. Sometime after that, my e-mail account was hacked into, and, apparently, some very nasty things were being sent to my e-mail connections. Muhney contacted me, quite perturbed, and cut me off from his e-mail connections. I didn’t blame him. I don’t know what to say about these new revelations, other than I am appalled at such behavior. Is he going through a mid-life crisis? Is it a ’7 year itch?’ The best analogy I can make is akin to John Edwards’ very public confession to ABC News, (Aug 2008) when he said that he had reached such heights that he believed he ‘could do whatever you want, there won’t be any consequences, you’re invincible.’ If these allegations are true about Muhney, and I am afraid they are, I would suggest that he take a good close look at himself in the mirror, and admit that his actions, and his actions alone, caused his own undoing.

As much as I hate to say it, they did the right thing by firing him. IF this is true. No matter who u are or where u work, it’s inexcusable.

    Mary SF replied

Again if it is inexcusable why was Jeanne Cooper allowed to get away with it for years- grabbing co-workers private parts and bottoms— I guess it is excusable if you are a woman doing it for “fun”, but if man tries to cop a feel it’s inexcusable.
HK is a grown woman, an actress in Hollywood, not a dainty flower- if she hasn’t learn to deal with gropers she will have to, because the entertainment industry is full of them. MM had no authority over her,, he wasn’t threatening her life or her job, he grab her boob, that’s it; if true— they could have simply made sure they never worked on the same day, or have scenes together. She could have gotten a restraining order against him. Termination of his job and having his reputation dragged through the mud, over a boob grab seems like over kill in Hollywood where this kind of thing is commonplace— which why I think there is either more to it than a simple grope or it never happened at all.

If you are truly fans then stop with all the gossip pray for both of them and move on watch the show if you want do not watch if you do not want to but please do not let this sway you one way or another. As for me I am done not because of MM leaving but because I am worn out of the daily bull crap that comes out of peoples mouths to convince me to watch a show which is nothing like the show I fell in love with. Whatever happened I don’t know, but I do know that MM is a much better actor than HK. If MM had a history then they shouldn’t have hired him in the first place. The now old Billy is much better than the once old now new Billy, the latter being extremely painful to watch. Phyllis is gone and you ain’t gonna get a better actress to play her than Michelle. They don’t care about lawsuits, they know most actors do not have the time, energy or bank account to be tied up in ligation for years. They know this, but just to cover their butts in case of one, they will use words like allegedly, or according to reliable sources—to protect themselves in a lawsuit. Trust me both TMZ and National Enquirer have deep pockets and armies of lawyers which why most celeb’s don’t bother — if celeb’s who are super famous and rich don’t waste their time filing a lawsuit, I doubt a soap actor who is a nobody by Hollywood standards would even attempt it. This why these shows and newspaper get away with spreading gossip, they are gossip mongers, not real journalists.

Also, since Steve Burton wasn’t getting the fan response the show was hoping for (becoming the No. 1 leading man), it’s more likely that Billy Miller’s contract negotiation was stalled and Muhney was fired so that Burton could be without competition for leading man. Both Muhney and Miller have massive fan bases, and are extremely popular. Seems to me like a convenient way to kill two birds with a massive stone…

As if married men who seem like the pillars of the community don’t cheat, lie and steal. Give me a break! You don’t know Michael or how he is in real life. So many people put on this front of being nice people, the perfect family, but behind closed doors are the exact opposite. And in Hollywood, men have being going after young women since forever. If they (think) have status then they try to use that to get girls to sleep with them. Many of these men are married with children but do not care.

I’ve been hit on men that make him look like a troll, charming, men with families, high affluent men in the community, and if you think this doesn’t happen, you’re mistaken.

Sadly, I never spoke up because I was scared because others will tell you don’t make a mess for everyone. I was told I had a good thing going, and why rock the boat because you’re making a great name for yourself in my line of work. One time it was so bad I had to ask to stop working for the individual I was working for and just said because he was too far away, and thank god he wasn’t my main attorney, or I would have been stuck.

Men who have power issues are the ones that are first to think everyone and everything belongs to them. He clearly had those issues as we saw from his tirades. I’m glad she spoke up because there’s a rumor he had previous behavior of this same thing. I don’t know how Sony let him through the doors if that’s true, but that’s really sloppy on their part.

Not necessarily fired immediately. Things like this require more than just firing someone on someone else’s say so. The producers need to hear both sides, do some digging, talk to people, and then do the firing.

Then the union would get involved, and the process is gone over again. The union will make sure the firing was done in line with the contract. If management acted appropriately, then the union has to agree to the firing.

As for MM’s firing, I’ve been around the corporate world long enough to know that when someone wants someone gone, all (s)he need do is wait around long enough until the targeted individual gives an opportunity for others to pounce, thus hanging him/herself. It can be the smallest or the largest of offenses. Simply said, if someone powerful wants you gone, you’ll be gone eventually. What I’ve kept harping on is that this show has been in steady quality/creative decline since the LML era. 2 progressively worse regimes later, this show is in shambles. I’m afraid JFP may be the final straw with this show. This rumor started going around w/n 24 hrs of MM leaving. The soap media was conspicuously silent; once TMZ posted, ALL have now posted, to include some main stream media. This speaks volumes. If no truth, a simply ‘cease & desist’ from a rep of MM would/should shut this down.

There is still something “off” about all this.

I can also see why MM would not have addressed this before now…and perhaps he still won’t. Many times rumors are not spoken of from the party involved until they become “fact” by being publicized in print or other media.

As for HHK, same thing. Or, she is young and feels threatened (rightly or not) by TPTB.

Look, each case is different. Throw in agents, lawyers and unions–all of which actors have on their side, and things can be delayed for anywhere from a few days to several months to settle.

As a union steward, I was privy to a lot of these cases. I know what goes on that people like you never see. This is why I can tell you that if someone in a union shop (like a soap actor) is fired for sexual harassment, then it’s because management was careful and didn’t make any mistakes with firing the guy. They did everything legally and by the book–just cause, order of how they handled it, everything.

If they do that, the union has no leg to stand on and can’t save the guy’s job. If they could have found any way to save him, they would have.

That said, the rumor does have a certain plausibility, in the sense that it’s hard to believe that TPTB would choose now to fire a very popular cast member, given all of the other losses and departures in the last year, unless they simply felt they had no choice. (But then too: if TPTB are having to find a way to dig themselves out of a hole, this kind of rumor is potentially really effective, isn’t it? Everybody thinks, “Oh, see, they didn’t have a choice,” and their PR disaster sort of goes away. And since the story isn’t being attributed to TPTB, but to “multiple sources,” TPTB can’t be sued.)

And finally, regarding Jill Farren Phelps and whether she’s being unfairly blamed: I don’t really care or feel much sympathy, if she is. This is her reputation: she does not have the nickname Jill Fire-Em Phelps for nothing, so if people have jumped to the wrong conclusion, she’s got only herself to blame. I don’t like to see anybody unfairly maligned, but she’s brought this on herself.

But good lord: TMZ as a source? Really? Yikes! That’s on a par with the National Enquirer. It wouldn’t entirely surprise me if this turned out to be true (that this is why he was fired–whether he actually did what he’s accused of would still be an open question), but I’ll wait to hear it from a source with some credibility, thanks.

What TMZ posted was almost the same as the anonymous post that came out weeks ago. They changed a few words here and there that’s it. If that’s their inside source, it doesn’t spell reliability to me. And yes, Firing Phelps has a reputation of getting rid of fan favorites so it shouldn’t come as a shock that she could fire someone like MM. Regardless of the reason he was fired, I don’t think it’ll change the fact that many of us will not be tuning in post Jan 30. Too many boring newbies I don’t care about and stupid plots. I have no interest in 40+ yr old Nick and Sharon being kept apart by Victor nor do I care about dull Dylan and his daddy issues.

If he was a letcher and had a reputation as such, than every female on the set should have been warned. I am sure there was gossip going on way before this came to a head that he was a flirt. The young ones should have been warned when they signed on.

So take your own advise and keep up with the FACTS as we know; and obviously WE KNOW NOTHING ACCEPT HE WAS FIRED. The rest are all RUMORS AND CONJECTURES .

They fired a very popular Daniel Goddard a year or so back and he did nothing wrong; so spare me the BS that he must have done this vile thing to be fired. If you are as knowledgeable as you claim, you would know Soap actors get let go all the time WITHOUT CAUSE.

After watching her long business history with the soaps, the actors who have been cast aside and treated horribly, I can just as easily believe that this is a character assassination to discredit Muhney and take the heat off the horrible casting and storyline decisions made by JFP.
I didn’t threaten to stop watching this show because of Muhney getting fired. I already stopped because of bad the show has become under JFP. Storylines betray the essence of this show and cast members are mistreated, veteran characters made to act OOC or pushed in the background, and her favorites pushed front and center.

What happened to get Muhney fired is all conjecture and nasty rumor at this point. What is indisputable is the trainwreck JFP has made of this show. THAT is right in front of our faces everytime we turn the show on.

Every show makes it a point to fire actors they want to keep around.

He may have been waiting to see if his union or lawyers could save his job. Can’t blame a guy for trying.

::::: Or did they suddenly change the scripts at the end after they decided to can him?:::

ALL soaps have contingency plans for an actor’s illness, accident, getting fired and even death.

As soon as they suspected him of something serious, they were talking with him, with the writers, with the legal department, with his union and lawyers–they had to prepare for him not being there in the very near future, and started working on it that instant.

He wouldn’t have been fired if management didn’t have just cause.

You don’t fire union-represented employees just because you feel like it. You absolutely MUST demonstrate that you have just cause, and went through all the appropriate motions to get it done.

You don’t fire employees who have lawyers on retainer, who can find every loophole imaginable, unless you have them dead to rights.

You don’t fire employees who have agents to argue for them, or even trying to persuade the employer to overlook the offense. Obviously TPTB at Y&R felt that they couldn’t overlook what happened.

How do YOU know that this person you’re defending isn’t a total creep who preys on young women, rather than thinking the worst of this young lady without any evidence of her doing any of the disgusting things you accuse her of, or your stupid wishful thinking to exonerate any man for anything he does?

Firstly, the “source”, TMZ, is not a very reliable site. If you are well-versed on social media, you know that this rumor was started WEEKS ago on a trashy, internet message-board. It is nothing but online fodder.

But, let’s consider if he DID do these things he is being accused of. Why would he choose Hunter King? Why not Sharon Case? Melissa Claire Egan? Any of the other women that he has been in close contact with on the show aka more opportunities. And if he is such a “bully”, why was he not fired before? Why was he not fired the first time he “fondled” her breasts? Why would she let him close enough to do so? She is a grown woman, she is not a child. If he had been a problem on the set for a long time, why was he good friends with his costars? Sharon Case made is blatantly known that she loves him as a colleague and person. He and Melissa Claire Egan were close. He and Joshua Morrow were close for multiple years, even leading soap magazines to run specials and interviews about their “bromance.” He and Maura West continue to be friends after she left the show. Same with Emme Rylan.

None of this story makes any sense. It is simply implausible. Something more believable, a certain young, newbie actress who wants to see an extremely talented, fan favorite actor, off-screen to make more room for her and her newbie, untalented costars. :)

It might be true, but the sources you quote could be compromised. The soap site owner doesn’t want to offend his connections to the show, and TMZ employs the husband of Angelica McDaniel. Do you think the lawyers didn’t talk to the complainant, or review the evidence before agreeing to the dismissal? Do you think the producers don’t have to overcome huge obstacles to fire someone?

And wouldn’t they keep him on as long as they had to, if the union was fighting the firing, or if the lawyers and agents weren’t hashing it out? Or they didn’t have to scramble to film scenes with him, to provide continuity for the viewers?

It’s amazing how everyone supports him, even if he’s a sexual predator. People just love to hate on women, for anything they do. Or don’t do.

Good for Hunter King for telling TPTB about it, and good for JFP for letting him go. No matter how good an actor he is, or how pivotal a storyline he is in, NOTHING gives anyone the right to put their hands on another person if it is not consensual, shame on him, and it is likely he felt as if he was above it all. Of course the other cast members didn’t come out in MM’s defense! Either they were warned by CBS to remain quiet or they are afraid of getting booted for siding with one of them. The fact that CBS allowed MM on the set after notifying him that he was being let go speaks volumes. If they believed he sexually harassed someone, they would have escorted him out on the spot and fit a storyline with his exit like they always do when something tragic happens to an actor in the middle of shooting. MM made a beautiful comment after being told he was fired. He showed dignity and grace and was willing to accept whatever their decision was because that’s the way a gentleman acts, especially in this type of business. Let’s hear from the little bimbo who loves to show off her breasts. How many women have claimed things like this to boost their careers? MM has been on the show for years and suddenly he’s risking everything for a little twit with big boobs? I don’t think so. He has a gorgeous wife and three beautiful kids. I don’t believe he would jeopardize his entire life and career over some little girl who wants free publicity!

I guess time will tell, but I sincerely doubt a young girl is going to jeopardize the career ahead of her by fabricating this story, she has nothing to gain out of it. All parties lose in a situation like this. Also, IMO, MM (who I admire as an actor) accepted this decision gracefully, because he knows the reason for his dismissal was justified. I am sure if the accusation was not true, he would fight this in a dignified manner, yet he choose to go down without a fight, that has guilt written all over it to me, not dignity.

    jamie replied

Really? Go down without a fight? Have you seen an actual accusation? Or, is everyone judging him on rumors? Do you know what’s going on behind the scenes or what his agent or attorney are advising him to do? We live in a society where you are presumed innocent until proven guilty. I guess it’s easier to find him guilty than to give him the benefit of the doubt until there’s real evidence. She hasn’t made a public statement either. Is there guilt written all over that, too? Perhaps this has nothing to do with sexual harassment. After all, he wasn’t the only actor that was let go. Yes, MM accepted the decision gracefully and made a public statement. Consider the fact that if they told him they were firing him for sexual harassment, he might not have said a word and waited for his attorney to make a statement. He would have known that the issue would be made public and he would have probably gone into seclusion until the whole thing blew over. Instead, he gracefully and humbly accepted their decision. In fact, he went back for the next three days and finished shooting. If he was such an embarrassment to the show, which he would be if the rumors are true, I think they would have killed him off that day or at least had him disappear. Instead, they had him back on the set. That wouldn’t make sense in the case of sexual harassment where they felt there was enough proof to fire him. Look at other open and shut cases. They walk you to the door immediately. I’m willing to hold off on convicting MM. Just because rumors are swirling doesn’t make them true and they really are rumors at this point. And even if the rumors that she accused him are true, that doesn’t mean he actually did it. I personally don’t believe he would jeopardize his career and family over something so stupid. He’s a veteran actor, unlike her. He’s been around on many sets for many years. I really doubt he would risk everything to touch her breast. From what I’ve seen, his wife is much sexier and more beautiful than that girl. But, that’s my opinion.

    Elhu replied

M has made a public statement, quoting Benjamin Franklin, a great quote for sure, but IMO is not saying much of anything. He was smart enough though, to tell people to be kind to all parties involved. The truth of the matter is, nothing is owed to us, the fans, this is something that needs to be hashed out between the parties involved, and the law. As for Hunter making a statement, why on earth would she have to do that for, at this stage of the game? There is nothing for her to defend (to most, her reputation is not in question). She came forward with the allegations, and now it is up to the law to look into the charges and make a decision based on the evidence found. Yes, someone is innocent until proven guilty, and nothing has been proven yet (publicly), but I also believe that MM would NEVER have been fired (as he is such a great actor, in a very pivotal storyline), unless, there was substantial evidence to do so, which we are not privy to (and rightfully so), at this point. The actual timing of his firing, and his being on the set or not, is not a big part of this, as we have no idea how that was all handled and agreed upon. It is now coming to light that MM is some kind of a diva behind the scenes as mentioned in previous articles (as I am sure many, many, many actors/actresses are, and that alone does not make him guilty of anything in this situation), but keeping that attitude in mind, it is my guess that he clearly did not think this would ever escalate to this level, as he most likely felt he was the one in control), and if all of this is true, I am very happy that Hunter was smart enough to bring it to the attention of TPTB. I firmly believe there is no way TPTB would have fired him without looking into it first, and having clear cut grounds to do so. We can all banter about this sad story forever, but the bottom line is, there is his side, there is her side, and somewhere in the middle lies the truth.

There are too many things that don’t add up. This story smells. If MM actually physically touched HK, this would be sexual assault and would be a police matter. He would have to be escorted out immediately or CBS would risk a law suit. MM gets let go the same day as Kyle and then films for 3 more days?? The Exec’s spouse works for TMZ, the trashy institution that repeated the rumor. I would imagine that both parties have been advised by their attorneys to not say anything. This doesn’t mean that MM is guilty. The co-workers can’t defend him – if they want to keep their jobs. Who knows why Steve Nichols, Michelle Stafford and Billy Miller really left?? ..Sorry this doesn’t add up???? It does sound like MM was a bit of a diva and had some attitude, but these rumors appear planted in my opinion,

Your way is stupid, anyway. Lots of “feisty” women end up stalked for their behavior, raped and even killed. And then they’re blamed for “instigating” the guy, or not fighting him off adequately, or whatever excuse you want to cling to, to absolve men of all wrongdoing, and lay all the blame on women.

    Mary SF replied

Exactly and any young actress in Hollywood would know gropers are dime a dozen in their business and learn pretty darn fast on how to handle them. He either did something worse than cop a feel or they wanted to get rid of him for awhile and he finally gave them a reason that would justify it sufficiently to the public. Trust me, if Steve Burton had done the same thing, they would have worked it out privately— and none of us would have known about it. But because they wanted MM gone for whatever reason if he did it, he gave them the excuse they were looking for.

    Eq8 replied

Everything adds up, if you’re not stupid.

She didn’t have to call the cops if he groped her. She could report it to management. Or she could do nothing.

It was HER call to make, not yours.

Even if she had called the cops–PLEASE. They come and take a report, at most.

And not everyone who gropes gets walked out, immediately, moron. I was part of a sexual harassment case (not as a victim) that took months to resolve, nearly a year! The guy accused was working through the entire thing, albeit in a different part of the company–but he still WAS NOT FIRED while it was being investigated and argued and sorted out.

When you don’t know what you’re talking about, sit down and shut up.

You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about. When they are accusing you of sexual harassment to the point where they are notifying you that you’re fired and have three days left, there’s something very wrong with that picture. Under those circumstances, they would have walked him right out the door without allowing him to hang around for a few more days and do some damage or whatever. The case you’re talking about is obviously a situation where they weren’t sure of what really happened and took their time investigating it. CBS is using the harassment as an excuse for something else…probably money. It’s pretty clear that the soaps are dying out…

So would have a warning from the power..

there is a story to all this and we know nothing of what happened, how it happened, why it happened again after the 1st time, who said what to whom, what was going on during that moment, who was there, what was done by whom at that time, exactly what was seen, and if something was seen what did that person do or say at that moment…
It could have been a remark turned into a deed.. it could have been an unintentional movement, we do not know what happened..

Hunter should not have been touched!! if in fact it was maliciously done it should have been handled the 1st time so as not to have a 2nd time, and destroy a man and his family, there are ways to handle certain situations..

I do know that if an employee assaulted a victim –and if CBS/Sony swore to protect that victim’s anonymity as a first priority– it is a SERIOUS Human Resources issue that the identity was revealed by the husband of a CBS executive on TMZ , worse, during a weekend when the headline would go global while CBS could innocently claim not to be able to stop it.

I also feel incensed that CBS/Sony/Y&R are leaking information about an actor’s exploiting a 19 year old by touching her clothed breasts (which is indefensible) while they have exploited that same 19 year old by making her job dependent on her performing onscreen, daytime, with her breasts in nothing but a bra. If it’s grotesque for a harasser to say “it was only a joke” it’s equally grotesque for the suits to say “it’s only a soap.” See Youtube, “bra scene HD Young Restless.”

“Harrassment” is not a cut & dry definition. What is considered sexual harrassment to one person might not bother someone else. BUT…if an employee went to CBS brass or Y&R executive producers TWICE about behavior she found objectionable, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. HR was required to investigate, and pending their discoveries, they acted in a manner they considered appropriate. If you think a corporation or the Bell family would risk a lawsuit by a hasty decision, you’re wrong. We only see the outcome. I’m sure their HR departments & legal teams have checked all the boxes required & let this actor go in such a way that they are covered.

The rumor of what Muhney did is mild compare to what Jeanne Cooper did on that set for decades. She groped men penises and pinched their asses; even had an affair with the much younger man who portrayed her son, Brook, on the show.

If Muhney did what is rumored he should have been fired but so should have Cooper years ago.

If a boss talks to them, he was looking at her breasts.
In our Society it long ago became a practice to look at young girls as nearly innocent and incapable of lying. Many parents even have rules to always believe their girls over their boys.
Girls can make accusations against any man, and with no proof they can destroy him.
A girl can get hired in a fast food restaurant today and make false accusations against a 20 year male employee tomorrow and cost him his job.

And when and if girls go as far as calling Police and filing reports, that to many makes it a clincher. No one would go that far if they were lying, right??

Not true! It happens everyday, in every state.

Just remember that you don’t know this girl. And like every pretty girl her age she thinks every male on the planet conspires to have sex with her 24/7.

I would like to know more about this situation. All we know now is that the actor was not very well liked by his co-workers and this girl has accused him of groping.
Where did this happen? Why were they alone? What was her reaction? Why wouldn’t he fear retribution like perhaps from her boyfriend? Are their texts from either of them? Has she accused men before? Is she one who gossips and causes problems for others? Is she Bi-Polar?

Why her? Why does this guy work with many young girls but only has this problem with her??

Though thanks to CBS making this public they have increased the likelihood of out of work actresses who may have worked that show anytime the last few years making accusations against the actor to get their name out there or to possibly sue.

It says that you shouldn’t believe the gossip…or don’t you understand quotes? Co-stars are also supporting MM or did you miss the youtube tribute video that Sharon Case made on behalf of Michael?

    Nikki replied

Kristoff St. John and Melissa Claire Egan also tweeted their support for him after his firing, so PatF, your argument means nothing.

    PatF replied

The quote does nothing to help his cause, however it did make several of the YR cast post support tweets for the supposed victim.

And they more than anyone would know since they are on the set with the rest of the cast.

    Bad quote to use. Sorry.

    Just say what you mean.

If any sexual assault(s) took place, do you think it’s possible that gropings by JC could have been a factor? Was MM groped by JC?

    MBmomof3 replied

I actually took the quote to mean that fans shouldn’t assume Hunter King should be blamed for his firing without actually saying anything incriminating. Maybe I’m giving him too much credit.

    PatF replied

Who knows…she is not here to defend herself. But it does seem like she did grab the men, but did they tell her to stop, or where exactly did she grab? That’s a separate situation though.

    jamie replied

Pat F – I’ll alert MM that his quote isn’t good enough for you. I’m sure he’ll be very upset to know…lol!

    PatF replied

Don’t bother the poor man. He has serious issues facing him.

    PatF replied

First of all there’s no argument here. I’m just stating clear obvious facts. Those tweets you are referring to came the same day or shortly after he tweeted he was leaving. They didn’t tell him to be strong, nothing of the kind. Just cast mates saying goodbye.

These latest tweets are completely different in tone and purpose. In fact another one just came from Josh M.

NO ONE has said anything to MM since the days he was let go, and the allegations came out.

I’m sorry that you can’t handle the fact that MM will never be on YR or Daytime TV for that matter. But here’s hoping that for WHATEVER the reason he was fired, he’ll be able to find work elsewhere as he’s a good actor. He just has some behavioral issues he needs to accept and work through.

No one has said anything to MM? Really? And you’re sure of that? LOL! Sure the tweets are different. He’s being convicted by the press. His family is being dragged down with him. It’s disgusting! Think Duke Lacrosse Case! Three innocent boys crucified by the press! MM is keeping a low profile and that’s exactly what any lawyer would tell him to do, innocent or guilty. But, if you think no one has said anything to MM, you should watch the tribute video that Sharon made for him on youtube after he was let go.

    PatF replied

I did watch it. I LOVE Sharon Case.

The guy was a friend of hers obviously. They worked closely together for years.

Having said that, we all have close friends who have made terrible choices, maybe even committed crimes. That doesn’t mean we turn our backs on them.

Meanwhile the tweets supporting the “victim” continue to pile up. And no further support for MM.

It’s going to be alright. I’m sure he’ll work again, and YR will definitely go on as the #1 soap. They’ve lost big talent before, and have had backstage negative press before.

    jamie replied

The sad fact is that fans are spreading rumors and taking sides while there is only one truth and it will come out. There’s a reason for so much silence and anyone with half a brain would understand that. Oh, and by the way, Y&R is loving the publicity their show is getting, so don’t be naive enough to think that anyone is really hurting the show. Consider this along the lines of a publicity stunt gone wrong…

    PatF replied

You are the naive one. No one would fire a star like MM for publicity. How ridiculous.

    jamie replied

I never said they fired MM for publicity. Read what I wrote again. They’ve let it go on for too long and it’s snowballing. CBS should have come out with the true statement right away, but they saw how much publicity the issue was getting.

No one should be attacking JFP for the YawneR molestasion mess. I’m now convinced she was hired to get rid of the sick people. Be warned, there will be more leaving. It was a horrible thing that was able to spread because no one took what was considered fun loving acts seriously. A lot of the victims could have become victimizers.

Does anybody know the names of JC’s victims?

No I am NOT defending the Enquirer or TMZ, HOWEVER sometimes they do get the story correct. And given how quiet Sony has been, and MM has been, it would seem the story might be right.

if he did it, he deserves to be fired! period!

what i wonder about is why did no one take him aside much earlier and give him the “talk” in no uncertain terms about all of his behaviour and make it clear his job was on the line if he didn’t correct it immediately. while he is totally accountable for his actions, it seems to me the manager/producer is accountable for managing the actors and insuring there is appropriate behaviour/decorum on the set. how/why was he able to get away with bullying harrassing his co actors for such a period of time? seems to me others fell down on their job as well. if you are the fire chief it is your responsibility to insure the fire is put out/ what were the “chiefs” doing while Y&R burned?

    4everDAYS replied

Maybe all this could have been avoided if JC would have been reprimanded. Did anybody tell her to stop? Sure, she may not have had sinister thoughts behind her actions, but her actions were wrong no matter what.

Is there any posters on this site who understand that those actions could, in part, be the catalyst to what is happening now?

DO ALL OF YOU HAVE AMNESIA?

Who were her victims or at least who were the accepting costars of JC’s groping?

people hunter king is telling the truth the teuth is usually simple and to the point, if hunter was fabricating her allegations she could have made far worse claims if Hunter was trying further her career she certainly wouldn’t have used Michael muhney ! The Young & Restless is teaming w/ people that are far more powerful then a soap actor Michael Muhney. I find it unli
kely that MM is would even be attractive to someone like HK when the Y&R has like 20 other drop dead gorgeous guys. I find it ludicrous that a teenager with hit on a guy like Michael Muhney. To a married Michael Muhney touching a 20 year old breast seem like joke or something / a new fling he thought he could get away since his ego is has big has his head. Hunter can dress however she feels fit. Michael Muhney still doesn’t have the right to in any way to make uncomfortable in her own skin. Sexual harassment usually happens when no one is watching. I believe Hunter King simply because she has no hidden agenda . If cbs were using her in their game. They surely would nt use a 20 year old to do so She would have sued them for defamation of character by now , Cbs can hire and fire as they see fit . Its their show. She doing MM a huge favor by not pressing charges, MICHAEL MUHNEY Sexual harass her on to separate occasions the first time it happened im sure she warned told him she go to sony/cbs. She gave him a chance (actor’s ) but he did it a again so what she supposed to put up with it. Wait for him to do

Absolutely ridiculous. He is the best thing young and restless has had in years. I just don’t have any more interest in the show. Phyllis and Ms. Chancellor are gone, now Adam. Why can’t you all writers, producers, and who ever it keep at least one of my characters around.
