14 August 19th, 2014 TNT DALLAS Recap: Sue Ellen Thinks She Burned Down Southfork …. But It Was Drew … Who Is Executed By Nicolas!

TNT’s Dallas returned last night with a burn your house down episode, literally!

As Southfork was engulfed in flames, Bobby (Patrick Duffy) and Christopher (Jesse Metcalfe) found Sue Ellen (Linda Gray) and Bo (Donny Boaz) in the rubble of the burning iconic home! Meanwhile, the paramedics came to save Pamela (Julie Gonzalo)who apparently attempted suicide, as the three-way broke up between Emma (Emma Bell), John Ross (Josh Henderson) and her in the hotel room.   Elsewhere, Elena (Jordana Brewster) and Nicolas (Juan Pablo Di Pace) are in bed (he tampered with her diaphragm and talked about having babies with her, and it looks as though they had sex once already!) when she gets a call from her mother Carmen that Southfork was set on fire.

When Heather (AnnaLynne McCord) shows up at the hospital post-fire, it seems she was very concerned for Bo, which caught the attention of Christopher.  And while all eyes suspected at first that Bo set fire to Southfork, he didn’t.  Sue Ellen thinks she did.  As she tries to fight her boozing demons while drying out in the hospital, she recalls as she is wandering through the hospital gift shop the invitation that upset her … that of John Ross’ marriage to Pamela that she began to burn before passing out!  Next, she steals some after-shave from the gift shop, which contain alcohol in it,  but doesn’t drink it.  She then admits to Bobby and Ann to being drunk and that she started the fire!  Sue Ellen admits she is an alcoholic.

But we soon learn the twist on a twist …  that it was none other than Drew (Kuno Becker) who started the fire and the Cartel and Nicolas have him detained so he won’t ruin their plans.  And after Nicolas is threatened by the Cartel if all their plans go up in smoke, Nicolas orders Drew to be killed.   Drew gets a bullet in the head!  Elena is also pissed at Nicolas when she realizes he was the one that sent the video to Pamela which showed Emma and John Ross having sex!

Judith Ryland, played by the superb Judith Light,  is on the warpath after seeing Ann (Brenda Strong) kiss Harris (Mitch Pileggi)!  She has some very terse words for Harris, and then goes to get Emma at the hospital.  But before she leaves, Judith makes sure Bobby knows exactly where Ann was during the fire … kissing Harris!  Bobby is furious and tells Ann he needs time alone because of all of her lies and asks her to leave!

John Ross admits to Pamela in the hospital that he does truly love her, but  she isn’t having it.  She tells him that whenever he makes love to another woman or Emma, he wants him to remember the sight of her overdosing!

What did you think of last night’s Dallas? Were you surprised to learn who started the fire?  Who was your favorite in the episode? We loved Judith Light, Josh Henderson, Linda Gray and Juan Pablo Di Pace.  How about you?  Let us know

Hope they get another season. There is still plenty of story to tell about the Ewings without J.R. I want to see how this family is going to fend off a Mexican drug cartel that’s intent on overthrowing the Mexican government! Talk about big stakes…

I enjoyed the twist of Sue Ellen believing and confessing that she started the fire, then the discovery that it wasn’t her. Amazing cast. Amazing season premiere. Can’t wait for more!

Great episode last night. Looking forward to next Monday! The scene where (spoiler) Sue Ellen shoplifts and is about to guzzle a bottle of after shave was reminiscent of her time in rehab when she was pregnant and the nurse smuggled mouthwash for her to drink. I’m curious to see if Cliff will return to confront John Ross about Pamela’s overdose.

I really like this new Dallas, story wise it is great, the cast is wonderful, and production values are like a big budget movie. My only pet peeve about the show is the editing– it is so choppy in spots, all that zooming in and zooming out of the camera drives my nuts— all the quick shots during action scenes to make them feel more fast pace than there are– it looks like someone who just discover how to edit video is doing it, and they are throwing in everything because they can not because the scene needs it. It was mildly distracting in season one, but now in season three— it is just annoying.

It was a great show. Sad that TNT doesn’t promote this show at all. It would have better ratings if people knew it was on.

It’s promoted plenty. There have been ads in TVGuide & Entertainment Weekly for a month, and on their websites. Commercials have been running all summer during TNT’s highly-rated new show, THE LAST SHIP, plus on TNT’s sister stations.
