32 September 8th, 2014 Tom Hallick Returns To The Young and the Restless In Twist On Brad Eliot’s Original First Scene!

When we first read the head line via TV Guide Magazine’s Michael Logan, we were so thrilled because back in the early days of The Young and the Restless one of the main heroes and heartthrobs of the show was Brad Eliot as played by Tom Hallick. And talk about your timing!  Even as recent as last week, On-Air On-Soaps mentioned Hallick in our item on the sad passing of his former co-star Victoria Mallory (Ex-Leslie Brooks, Y&R).  In fact, as we showed you Hallick and Mallory appeared in the first title card of Y&R together back in 1977.

Now today in the TVG item, while Hallick is not returning as Brad Eliot, which is a bit disappointing, he will be seen in a different role with a very familiar twist to longtime fans of the CBS soap opera!  When Brad Eliot first emerged in Genoa City it was in the premiere episode of Y&R, where in the soap’s very first scene Brad gets a lift from a truck driver heading to GC!  However now, Hallick will be seen in a different role  as a kindly truck driver who helps an on-the-run Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) find her way back home!  Look for the scene to air on the Friday, September 26th episode.

Hallick shared that he got to use Jeanne Cooper’s old dressing room for his short stint on Y&R, but barely recognized anyone at the show.   He also shared that after he decided to leave Y&R in 1978, the success he had hoped for didn’t really come in primetime after a reshuffling of executives happened while in his development deal with NBC.  He later ended up on DAYS as banker Maxwell Hathaway: “The experience was awful,” he says with a laugh. “I won’t even go into why. You had to be there.”

So, what do you think of Hallick’s twist on a twist on the very first scene from Y&R and his return for a key scene with Gina Tognoni?   Share your thoughts below!

Wish he said why Days was awful…lol…of course he wont be back as Brad…he left the show in 1978 during the Brooks and Foster families era with Jill no.2 in the current cast and so Brad has no real connection to the current characters unless Brad came on as someones long lost daddy but its still good news when an older vet shows up…would like to see him on GH as Jeff Webber!!!

If he left in 1978 which is more than 35 years ago the majority of viewers won’t remember hisb old character and as another poster mentioned the people he associated with have been long gone.

Yes it is a cool nod but even I who remember the Fosters and Brooks (barely) can not place his old character. Nothing wrong with that it is just that the canvas has changed a lot in 30+ years.

@Nicole..Brad Elliot was the beginning of Y&R with it’s slow mystery buildup built around love/characters/relationships. This was the story that set the tone for Bill Bell’s take on the daytime drama and it worked in spades. His wife had died(did he kill her?) he was mugged, blinded, and left with no memory and no identification when Stuart Brooks took him under his wing and into the realm of his four diverse but passion seeking daughters and his warped wife jennifer. Thus this was the beginning of this fantastic show that changed the entire landscape of soaps..and brought us shows like Capitol..etc..I miss Myrna Clegg..Carolyn Jones was FABULOSO..and a hoot…that fur hat..that being said.. There are many day one viewers of this show…the old audience has up and just dropped like flies girl.

He didn’t have to be going for business but just curiously driving around the town that gave him his life back all those years ago. There are people there he would still know..and even though it wasn’t his original hometown…it became one to him. How easy to just have phyllis run into this man who was once lost and found his way again through his journey’s in GC just like phyllis was and is again. Don’t use a cute scene when there’s deeper meaning. Many people who watched from day one still do…i’m one of them. I just wish the onslaught of gimmicky casting would stop and someone takes over this show with true respect to the past. You could cover so much of this shows history and enlighten a lot of new viewers in a two to three day guest spot that would and should have been heavy on past years where Brad was involved.

Cool nod to history but more importantly, why the hell is Phyllis hitchhiking across the country? This sounds so dumb!

as for myself watching Y&R since day 1 I really do not recognize Tom Hallick, maybe because I am older now! But I do think that is a good way to get Phyllis back home, looking forward to watching this episode!

He was before my time, so unless I read this story I would not have known who he was or the twist playing off his first scenes on the show back in the day. However his story makes you wonder about all those people who leave daytime hoping for bigger and better things that never come along. I don’t know if his upcoming appearance was meant to be a fun threat for long time viewers or just bittersweet irony the he audition for bit player on the same soap he once was a leading man on. Did they seek him out on purpose to create this twist– or was it just a coincidence? If on purpose, not sure if I was him I would be flattered or insulted, but a gig is a gig— I suppose.

So I read the whole article at TV Guide — they sought him out,so the whole twist thing was written on purpose with him in mind. At least he wasn’t reduce to auditioning for a day role.

As I recall, Bill Bell chose to write the Brooks and Foster clans (Jill excepted) out because story wise it became too difficult to keep recasting. Janice Lynde was the original Leslie and shared the best of the Brad Elliott storyline, while Victoria Mallory’s Leslie was more entwined with Lance and Lucas Prentiss. And Leslie was a particularly hard role to cast, because the actress really needed to pass as a concert pianist. And as it became harder and harder to keep characters on the canvas, they just ended up fading away.

They need someone in the Chancellor home that is powerful and wise. Jill doesnt cut it. Her and Colin are terrible! Bring Corbin Bernsen in as Tucker McCall and have him fight Victor for Chancellor Industries.

On one hand it would be nice for him to play the character he originally played, but on the other hand, so many people started watching after his time, I don’t think it would make much sense for them to bring Brad Eliot back after so long. Plus, this is a great twist on the story where Tom Hallick is playing the truck driver, and Phyllis is the hitchhiker, it’s like a role reversal for him.

If Y&R wants to bring back older characters from its past, they should bring back Brock. He’s popped up sporadically recently and everyone knows he’s Katherine’s first son, so he already has current ties to the canvas. And if Beau Kazer can’t play the role for whatever reason, I think adding ex-AMC star Michael E. Knight to play Brock would be awesome!

I wish every one at The Young and The Restless would acknowledge the programme’s history. I reckon there are so many of us who have been following the storylines since the very first day, including myself. I definitely remember Brad, the entire Foster and Brooks families and think it is a shame that an episode was not dedicated to Victoria Mallory, whose portrayal of Leslie Brooks Eliot Prentiss was amazing. I understand that there are those who were not familiar with actors, characters or storylines from the very beginning, but those of us who have been through it all LOVE to have nods to the past and respect for Genoa City’s history played out in current day. If it were not for those in the beginning, Young and Restless could have died a quiet death 40 years ago.
Think about it…we still have Jill. She has a niece, Jennifer Elizabeth Foster, through her brother, Snapper. Jennifer could have been brought to town; or Chuckie, Snapper’s son by Sally who had a kidney transplant. Nikki’s sister, Casey. Paul’s other brother, Stephen, who loved Peggy Brooks. So many possibilities. Brad Eliot knew Jill. Who cares that it was Brenda Dickson…she was Jill to the viewers.
Any road, I just believe that history in a programme is very important. I am happy to see the actor return, however briefly and in spite of the fact that he is not playing Brad Eliot. Sorry about my long windedness, and ta so very much for taking the time to read. Cheers! X

LOVE this idea because it means SOMEONE is wanting to honor YR history. If they keep doing these small things, like bringing back David Tom (yes, I know), Camryn Grimes, Eileen, Shemar, and this small gig with Tom, it may mean we’ll continue to get some surprises from the past.

My biggest wish is to get one of the Brooks, Foster, or Prentiss kids (either known or unknown) onto the canvas. I’d love to see Lorie Brooks have a daughter in town.

YES!!! This is exactly the type of things I was speaking about in my post above. Brooks Prentiss, Lance and Leslie’s son would most certainly be some type of business tycoon for Prentiss Industries. I can imagine what Lorie Brooks’ daughter may have turned out like…and Lorie was once engaged to Victor Newman…So many possibilities based upon the beginnings of the entire programme! Cheers! X

I’ve watched since 1st episode 3/26/1973. So much has changed. It used to be such a glamorous show with glamorous people who had style and flair. Now they’re just a bunch of commoners w/no real purpose.
