The fourth annual TV Guide Canada Soap Opera Spirit Award nominations were announced today in 20 categories including Outstanding Soap Opera, Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress and Outstanding Performance by a Duo among other key categories. This year for the first time web soaps have been included and integrated into the categories with the daytime soaps. Thus, Venice received 15 nods, while the most nods went to General Hospital with 27.
The winners will be revealed by TV Guide Canada’s Nelson Branco in major categories for the first time on our second annual SOS Awards Presentation on the On-Air On-Soaps Podcast coming your way on Monday, March 7th. So stay tuned for special guest co-hosts and extra special podcast surprises.
The eligibility period for consideration for an SOS nomination is for episodes between Jan 1, 2010 through to Dec 31, 2010. The nominees for Outstanding Soap Opera are, The Bold and the Beautiful, General Hospital, One Life to Live, Steamboat and The Young and the Restless. Nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress went to: Debbi Morgan, All My Children, Laura Wright, General Hospital, Florencia Lozano, One Life to Live, Crystal Chappell, Venice, Michelle Stafford, The Young and the Restless and Melody Thomas Scott, The Young and the Restless.
Nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor went to James Scott, Days of our Lives, Maurice Benard, General Hospital, Trevor St. John, One Life to Live, Jerry verDorn, One Life to Live, Eric Braeden, The Young and the Restless, and Michael Muhney, The Young and the Restless.
And for Outstanding Performance by a Duo: Elizabeth Hubbard and Larry Bryggman, As the World Turns, Eric Sheffer-Stevens and Van Hansis, As the World Turns, Susan Flannery and Katherine Kelly Lang, The Bold and the Beautiful, Suzanne Rogers and John Aniston, Days of our Lives, Steve Burton and Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo, General Hospital, Michael O’Leary and Michael Park, Steamboat, Crystal Chappell and Jessica Leccia, Venice, and Billy Miller and Amelia Heinle, The Young and the Restless.
