Great news today out of the TCA (Television Critics Association) session today with Showtime. The network’s president, David Nevins announced that the revival of the soapy cult classic Twin Peaks from David Lynch will debut on May 21 at 9PM with a two-hour season premiere. And as an extra perk, immediately after the premiere, episodes 3 and 4 will also be made available through Showtime’s digital platform.
In addition, the series will contain 18 episodes. “It will be 18 unforgettable hours,” Nevins related to the press. He also said he has viewed all the episodes at a private screening set up by Lynch complete with donuts!
After watching, Nevins called the new installment “the pure-heroin version of David Lynch.” and adds it “rewards close watching,”
As for if there would be more Twin Peaks after this season, it does not appear so. Nevis added, the show is “designed to be close-ended, one-time event.”
As for the story in the revival, Nevins only would say, “It’s about Agent Dale Cooper’s (Kyle MacLachlan) odyssey to Twin Peaks.” Series star Kyle MacLachlan will be joined by many returning stars from the original ABC version in the early 90′s, plus several new faces as well.
