ABC News is rushing to determine just what its upcoming Good Morning America spinoff — GMA In the Afternoon — will look like. Lara Spencer and Josh Elliott, who regularly appear on GMA doing the hard news and celebrity news segments, and have secondary roles alongside, GMA co-anchors Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos are considered the frontrunners to host the Summer series, that replaces The Revolution, which was canned this past week. As previously announced, the GMA afternoon edition will air at 2 p.m. in the Eastern time zone and at 1 p.m. in most other areas of the country.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “One other possible difference between the regular morning GMA and GMA In The Afternoon: is that the afternoon edition might call upon ABC News personnel who are not regulars on GMA. That is especially likely to be true if there is major breaking news and the network does extra programming or goes live during the afternoon period. it was leaders at the ABC Television Network who came to ABC News and then to GMA with the idea of doing the afternoon version for about nine weeks.”
THR also indicated that ABC morning show’s producers were happy to accommodate the idea as a way to extend their franchise. “This is a great opportunity to give more exposure to the show and attract new viewers,” said the ABC spokesperson.
