32 October 11th, 2012 Will You Be Making Regular Stops To NASHVILLE? Would You Give The Premiere A Thumbs Up?

ABC’s highly-touted new primetime soap, in the veil of a dramatic music series with a country flair, Nashville, finally premiered last night at 10EST/9CST!

If you tuned in, the show follows Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton), who was once the hottest singer in town, but whose career is at a crossroads and seemingly stuck in neutral, or a decline!  Rayna’s record company tells her they need her to drop her upcoming solo tour and open for young country crossover upstart bitch, Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere)!  But we also learn that troubled Juliette has an addict of a mother, and some other major troubles!

Meanwhile, against Rayna’s wishes, her powerful daddy, (Powers Boothe) lures her husband, Teddy (Eric Close) into throwing his hat into the mayoral race!  And we learn that Rayna’s bandleader, Deacon (Charles Esten) – with whom she shares a romantic past – is considering a job offer from none other than connivving Juliette!  But as in any good soap, there is a mighty little cliffhanger that might help our fading starlet, Rayna! That is when Nashville newcomers Scarlett (Clare Bowen) and Gunnar (Sam Palladio) perform at an open mic night an original song that just might revive Rayna’s stalled career.

Of course, there was much more to the first episode then detailed above including the appearance of former General Hospital star, Jonathan Jackson (Ex-Lucky) as Avery Barkley, but we want to throw this out to you!  What did you think of the premiere of Nashville?  Do you think the set-up offers twists and turns that will keep you coming back each week to see how the story progresses?  Would you give the series premiere a thumbs-up? Or, a thumbs-down?  Weigh-in!

I give it a thumbs up with hesitation because I really hope they give Jonathan more dialogue and a storyline where they’re not using his character to enhance other characters and their storyline. He is the BIGGEST reason I’m watching and to waste such a huge talented actor/singer with 5 daytime Emmys, who has worked with some of the industries premier actors such as Al Pacino, Robin Williams & Hilary Swank to name a few, is not using his abilities to make the show shine for us JJ fans I would feel a huge disappointment and let down. But I will continue to watch in hopes of seeing JJ act and sing more.

I give it a thumbs down. It honestly bored me half to death. I couldn’t enjoy it at all. The promos were the best thing about the series, truthfully. I would give this ’til the mid-season break, and then it’ll likely be over. I saw nothing good about it, realistically.

I am very sad to say this but I gave it a Thumbs down :( I was board and most of the good parts were in the preview. Johnathan to be honest was forgettable and seemed more like an extra rather then a cast member. It was also kind of predictable. I really hope it gets better because this was one of the shows I was really looking forward to watching.

I think it lacked chemistry between the leads – I just didn’t see it. Neither of the two main female leads were believable as big country music stars. Hopefully it can develop as the series moves on so I’m willing to continue to watch for now, but it doesn’t even hold a candle to Dallas!

That is sad– ABC has very great shows ..
The prime time soap Revenge is off the charts as are others of the new season shows..
This season is a great season for ABC shows including GH !!

Most soap stars are boycotting ABC/D and only watch GH.

I agree with Linda! I will not put more money in the pockets of ABC/D by watching any of their programming except GH! There are plenty of entertaining shows on the many other channels we have access to! ABC/D is run by idiots!

I don’t care what ABC puts on I will not watch. They slapped us in the face cancelling our soaps knowing there where not giving the real ratings on them.We know millions more are watching but we’re not suppose to talk about it and ABC knows it to.So I hope ABC flops like a fish out of water. They don’t care about us we don’t care about them.

I loved NASHVILLE. Connie Britton is amazing and the series promises to tell some good stories very well. I do hope I will be enjoying NASHVILLE as I have DALLAS, KNOTS LANDING and REVENGE in the past and present.

I think the show is well made, features strong performances, and integrates the music very well. This is quality television with some characters I want to know better and spend time with.

Agree! I loved every minute of it. I don’t even care that it is on ABC, I only watch GH, Revenge & now Nashville. Sorry, boycotters, but love my soaps, day or night. Anyone recognize Rayna’s sister, I think she was on Loving way back.

    I like the story ..
    The singing is awful, terrible!
I can only hope there will be 95% story and 5% singing, then it will really be a great show.

I told the other half that as long as it doesn’t turn into the Country version of Glee, I’m good. In the beginning, I loved the story on Glee, but the singing… not so much.

I did find myself liking one of Connie Britton’s songs & the duet towards the end of the show, though… so I might be able to deal with a 75-25 split.

I won’t watch anything on ABC except GH. But I did notice the commercials and ABC just crammed the premiere down our throats. I can’t wait to see the ratings.
My new show is Chicago Fire.

I’m on the fence. The first show was a bit dull, but that is to be expected. They have to introduce characters, set up relationships and hint at things to come. Was not a fan of the singing, the songs were good, just not perform well. I will watch it again but if the pace doesn’t pick up a bit it will not last too long.

I did not watch Nashville but my brother watched the first 15 minutes and said he was bored to tears. From what I understand, the show’s ratings really tanked its 2nd half hour so that does not bode well longterm.

I started watching it live, but within the first fifteen minutes I was so frustrated I left it to my DVR to tape for watching at a later time. It was a disappointing snooze fest for me. I hope when I go back to watch the rest it will pick up and gain my interest. I really want to like this show. We’ll see…

I still haven’t watched the premiere, but from the short synopsis above, I’m in! I was up late last night studying for one of my midterms, and working a full time job at DISH can sometimes eat into my TV time. I’ve been looking forward to Nashville, mostly because of Connie Britton, so I was surprised to read so many mixed reviews online today. I know that I have the premiere saved as a part of my Primetime Anytime recordings on my Hopper, so I’ll get around to watching it while I eat breakfast tomorrow morning. If this episode isn’t what I was expecting, then I won’t give up on it, at least not until the fourth or fifth episode.

I haven’t watched yet either, but I do know it sometimes takes 2-3 episodes to really get rolling, so I’ll at least give it that. But that is all, if it doesn’t suck me in!

I didn’t need any more than one episode of Revenge to get me hooked on that show.

Yes, there are several underlying stories under the main one! People, give it a chance, forget that it is ABC! Maybe if they see we are loving their nighttime soaps-who knows? But a soap is a soap is a soap! We love them! Support SOAPS.

ABC could care less if or if not you watch their prime time soaps lol
You are missing out on some really really good shows/entertainment and again ABC could care less about your boycott., it does ABC/D no harm, none at all..
Nashville has to be given a chance, I think it will be very good once it moves forward, it seems to have had a slow opening, but I think it will be much better in the next shows .. I will watch again..

I am so happy that you watch the worst of all the broadcast networks. It you notice, ABC does care about the people that have jumped their ship. All theirs shows are at the bottom except 4. That is not a good sign and from what I have been reading the music is bad and so was the story. To each his own.

I was underwhelmed by the pilot, but will watch a few more episodes to see if it grabs me. I hope JJ has a bigger role in future episodes, and sadly, every time I see Connie Britton, I’m looking for Kyle Chandler. Damn, I miss Friday Night Lights.

Did not watch it. I have zero interest in country music or supporting ABC/Disney in any programming other than GH. I even gave up Modern Family. Now it is CBS only in our household, unless OLTL gets back on the air or at least a wrap up tv movie.
