One Day At A  Time sitcom star, Broadway veteran, and a recent guest star on The Young and the Restless, Bonnie Franklin, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

In a brief statement issued by her family circulated by CBS, it stated Franklin was being treated for pancreatic cancer and was “continuing her normal schedule during this time.”   It went on to say that, “She and her family remain extremely positive and thank everyone for their support and concern.”  It concluded with a request that her privacy be respected.

Franklin last aired today on Y&R as Sister Celeste, a modern day nun, and was involved in Victor Newman’s MIA storyline that is playing out now.

Bonnie is best known for playing divorced mom Ann Romano in CBS’s hit comedy One Day at a Time, which ran from 1975-84.  She also appeared in TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland last year — reuniting her with her One Day co-star Valerie Bertinelli.

Our thoughts are with Bonnie and her family at this time.

I’m in agreement with dg on this! I was very saddened to hear that she has pancreatic cancer and it is one of those cancers that if not caught early will very likely kill you. My prayers go out to Bonnie Franklin, her family and friends as she battles this disease at this difficult time. Godspeed Bonnie! Get well soon!

This is so sad. Usually when they discover pancreatic cancer it’s too late to do anything about it. It can briefly go into remission, but usually it means you’re gone in less than a year. I’ve lost 3 friends/relatives to this type of cancer in the last four years and it’s been the same basic scenario for all of them.

What awful news. I have really enjoyed her as Sister Celeste. I know I wasn’t on board to begin with all the stunt casting, but she is very likeable. I hope she can muster the strength to fight this terrible disease.
