We are now only a few episodes away from the two-day memorial episodes celebrating the life and times of Genoa City’s Grand Dame, Katherine Chancellor! Next week on September 3rd and 4th, The Young and the Restless offers up moving and heartfelt drama at Katherine’s memorial service which also pays tribute to the late great Jeanne Cooper who inhabited the role of Mrs C. for 40 years.
In this video clip, Eric Braeden as Victor Newman has his turn to speak to the guests at Katherine’s memorial and remembers a time and some advice given to him by his dearly departed friend. Victor says to Katherine, “Sometimes I feel that it is the children that have failed me rather than the other way around,” in reference to the Newman clan. Katherine then asks him, “How are you going to learn from your past mistakes if you refuse to not repeat them in the future?” Victor then says, “And that, my dear Katherine, from the paradigm of motherhood, that’s like the pot calling the kettle black, isn’t it?”
However it is the final words by Victor Newman ala Braeden spoken to those gathered for the funeral that makes one reach for the hankies! Victor says in regards to Katherine, ” She always spoke the truth to me, no matter what, and I think I’ve become a better person for it. I know one thing: I will never meet the like of her again.”
