As Nicole and Taylor are about to enter the DiMera mansion, Rafe2 throws Fay down the stairs! He rips her cameo necklace off her body and quickly hides. The sisters finally enter the house and are horrified to find their mother lying at the bottom of the steps, bleeding and unconscious. Rafe2 leaves thinking – and hoping – that Fay is dead. Nicole and Taylor call for help and rush their mother to the hospital. EJ overhears Johnny boasting that “Rafe” helped him learn how to fight. EJ uses the opportunity to confront Sami and put pressure on her regarding her out-of-control husband. Sami goes home and finds a nervous “Rafe,” who lashes out at her. EJ arrives at the hospital. As Nicole goes to sit with her unconscious mother, EJ tries to comfort Taylor, who pushes him away. Taylor calls Sami and lets her know about the accident. Rafe2 is stunned when Sami informs him that Fay is hanging on. Sami is baffled by his reaction. Meanwhile, Daniel and Carly tell Nicole and Taylor that Fay was not on medication at the time of her fall. The sisters wonder how she ended up falling down the stairs if she wasn’t affected by meds. In the hospital room, Fay awakens, stunned to find a concerned EJ by her side. As Fay recalls overhearing EJ’s evil plot, her monitors start to go wild.

Carly swears to herself that she will never again use a drug to numb her pain. She’s still jumpy when she runs into Adrienne and Justin, but covers. At the hospital, she’s once again tempted, but manages to exert some self-control. Meanwhile, Jennifer invites Daniel over, and they discuss Carly’s erratic behavior. Later, Jennifer uses a chair to adjust a picture and ends up falling… right into Daniel’s strong arms. The close, physical moment sparks a feeling in both of them – and Daniel beats a hasty retreat. Justin and Adrienne decide to elope!    EJ’s presence causes Fay to have a cardiac arrest, but Carly and Daniel manage to revive her. EJ confides in Lexie that he must have upset Fay, though he doesn’t know how or why. EJ longs to comfort Taylor but must play the role of dutiful husband to Nicole. Later, he tells Taylor he thinks Fay might be on to their feelings for each other. Meanwhile, Nicole goes home to investigate her mother’s accident and discovers the pills she hid. Nicole wonders why she didn’t take them. Rafe2 is panicked when he realizes Fay might be able to speak and implicate him in her fall. He tries to flee from the loft but Sami stops him. He ably covers and is relieved when he realizes Fay is currently incommunicado. He seizes an opportunity to slip over to the hospital to take care of Fay, once and for all. Later, Caroline drops by the loft to visit Sami and watch the kids. Sami decides to visit Fay at the hospital. As “Rafe” prepares to inject a fatal air bubble into Fay’s IV, an unsuspecting Sami approaches the room.

Melanie discovers Dario has used the money from Brady to hire a new private eye. In turn, she decides to use some of her divorce settlement money to offer a reward for any information on Arianna’s hit-and-run driver. Melanie tells her parents, who are impressed by her generosity. Dario is far less impressed. Meanwhile, Daniel tells Carly he’s worried about her. She admits she was having a tougher time than she let on but assures him that everything is fine now. Chloe comes upon Philip in a secret meeting with the social worker and jumps to the conclusion that he’s trying to take Parker away from her. He explains that, in fact, he’s trying to help her regain custody. Chloe and Philip continue to draw closer.

Rafe2 is about to inject an air bubble into Fay’s IV when Sami enters the room. He manages to hide the needle. Before Sami can question him as to why he’s there, Fay’s alarms go off and Rafe2 is hopeful that Fay will die, but she does not. “Rafe” lamely tries to tell Sami that he was checking on Fay as a favor to his wife. She doesn’t quite buy it, but lets it go. Rafe2 freaks, knowing if Fay recovers, she’ll tell everyone he threw her down the stairs. He plots to get back into Fay’s room, but Sami insists he come with her. She drags him to their special spot in the woods to get back what they had. A frustrated “Rafe” loses it and threatens Sami’s life. Taylor and EJ worry that Fay may have discovered their feelings for each other and that it may have somehow led to her falling down the stairs. Taylor is stricken that it almost killed her mother. She says they have to tell Nicole, because when Fay comes to, she’ll tell Nicole anyway. Nicole returns to the hospital and goes into EJ’s arms, happy her mother may be on the road to recovery. She hopes Fay can tell them what happened and what she was calling Nicole about before she fell. Later, Taylor visits her sleeping mother. She confesses all and begs for her forgiveness. Fay starts to open her eyes.

Dario thinks Melanie posted the reward for Arianna’s hit and run to impress him. Melanie is livid. She makes an impassioned speech about how much Arianna meant to her. Dario is affected. Dario later runs into Stephanie and questions her about Melanie, wondering if she’s as bad as he first thought. He begins to think better of Melanie until he spies her hugging Brady. Brady and Victor continue their strife over Titan. Later, Victor asks Maggie to go to Paris with him. Maggie thinks he means forever, but Victor says it’s just for dinner. Maggie still turns him down. She says she’d rather cook dinner for him here in Salem. Later, Maggie asks Melanie to play peacemaker for the Kiriakis men. Melanie tries, but doesn’t blame Brady for what he did. Brady is touched. Frustrated that Sami inadvertently prevented him from killing Fay, Rafe2 has a fantasy of killing Sami. He snaps out of it and tries to be like Rafe. He leaves a still-troubled Sami who confides her concerns to Caroline. No longer believing his behavior is tied to the brain trauma, she is determined to figure out what’s wrong with him. Meanwhile, “Rafe” goes to the police station and tells Detective McCarthy he’ll be away all night on a stakeout (creating an alibi so he can kill Fay). McCarthy insists on going with him, so he sends her on a diversion. He heads back to the hospital and rummages through the supply room for surgical scrub. Fay struggles to speak and manages to tell Taylor to help Nicole. Unable to say more, she drifts back to sleep. Taylor relays the message to Nicole and EJ. In private, Taylor tells EJ she doesn’t believe Fay’s agitation has to do with their feelings for one another. As they question what could be troubling Fay, Nicole sits with her sleeping mother, telling her how much she loves her. Fay awakens and says to Nicole, “EJ… secret.” Chad tells Abigail he’s moving into the DiMera Mansion that night and wants her to go with him. They meet up with Stefano and Kate and walk in on Mary still cleaning Fay’s bloodstains from the floor. Stefano calls EJ for the scoop on her fall, while Chad genuinely thanks Kate for sending him his birth certificate, which led him to his real family. Stefano is pleased, but later, he overhears Abigail telling Chad she thinks the bloodstains were a bad sign – it was a mistake for him to move in. Stefano is not pleased.

Fay mutters two words to Nicole – “EJ” and “secret.” Nicole is unable to question her further when Fay becomes agitated and Lexie has to sedate her. Abe tries to reassure Taylor and Nicole, and backs Lexie up when she insists Fay not have any visitors. The sisters head home, where Nicole thanks a guilty Taylor for coming back into her life. They decide to head back to the hospital and check in on their mother. At the same time, the Rafe2 manages to get into Fay’s room and prepares to kill her – just as she opens her eyes in horror. At the asylum, an amnesic Rafe is getting stronger and is more determined than ever to find out who he is and where he came from. Carly overhears Vivian on the phone with Carly’s son, Nicholas. As Vivian wishes him a happy birthday, she sees Carly’s heartbreak and plays it up. Later, Carly calls Nicholas and tries to make amends, but he can’t forgive her for killing his father. He declares that she’s dead to him. Carly goes to the hospital, where she hears Abe talk about his relationship with his son. A wrecked Carly lifts some meds and is sorely tempted to take them to ease her suffering, but she’s able to resist – for now. Later, Gus tells Vivian the DiMera Mansion is empty (or so he thinks!), and Vivian intends to uncover Stefano’s secrets that night! Bo and Hope question Ciara’s classmate, Kimberly, about her daring Ciara to scale the school fence. Kimberly insists Ciara is lying. Ciara, who doesn’t want her parents to realize she was trying to run away, stands her ground. Bo believes in his daughter, and he and Hope decide to let it go. Happy they’re on the same page; Bo and Hope have dinner and then go home. Things get romantic, and they make love for the first time since their reconciliation.
