Chad, Will and Sonny realize their website problems are far from over. They learn users are fixing games and using their site to place their bets. At the same time, Abigail learns Jack has submitted her for a prestigious journalism award for an article she wrote for the sports site – and she won! Jack is very proud of her. A touched Abigail encourages her father to start writing again, too. He considers and makes a mysterious call to Roman.

Later, Abigail informs Chad, Will and Sonny of the good news. They don’t reveal their issues with the site, except to say they’re having technical problems. After considering all of their options, the three business partners realize they’re going to have to cut their losses and shut down their site. This is a huge blow, but Chad rallies the troops and gets them to agree to partner on another venture. Abigail returns and asks Chad if they figured out their problem, and he vaguely says they did.

Post-sentencing, Brady goes to see John, and the estranged father and son bond. Brady finally understands how much his father cares for his family. John is sorry they weren’t able to mend fences until now, but hopes they can still work on their relationship even though he’s going to prison. John asks Brady to look after Marlena. Brady agrees and he and his father say a warm good-bye. Later, Jack stops by to see John and reveals he would like to do an in-depth piece on him and allow him to tell his side of the story. John declines at first, but Jack presses. John relents but before he will agree, he needs to talk to his wife and family. Later, the conversation rolls around to Jack being held prisoner. John knows firsthand what it’s like and if it wasn’t for Marlena, he doesn’t know how he would have coped. He urges Jack to get help.

Frustrated Madison realizes Kate has the edge on the local market. She wants to move her world headquarters elsewhere, but Brady isn’t having it and threatens breach of contract. He asks Madison why she wants to run, but before he gets an answer, she leaves. At the same time, Kate has won her latest battle against Madison and she has a new ally in Quinn. Quinn sort of comes on to Kate, but she brushes him off. She does ask for his help in keeping tabs on Madison.

Sami comes to EJ, frustrated and nearly paralyzed with guilt. They try to figure out what to do about their secret. They immediately agree there was no attraction when they had sex but they differ on how to handle the situation. EJ is adamant that Nicole must never know what happened. Concerned, he puts Sami on the spot about whether her guilt is going to cause her to confess to Rafe. After an emotionally fraught argument, they promise each other the secret will remain between them.

EJ and Sami are unaware that Will also knows the truth. Struggling, he seeks out Marlena, who immediately senses something is on his mind. She tries to draw him out and he is tempted to unburden himself… but he manages to keep quiet. He insists any uneasiness he’s having is linked to his relationship with Gabi and his need to have a solid, committed relationship – in contrast to his mother.

Nicole puts Quinn on notice to keep his business clean, but he manages to press her buttons about her feelings for EJ. She runs into Patti Stanger, who offers helpful advice and makes Nicole understand that it’s okay to let go of the past and trust EJ. Rafe and Carrie connect and she asks him to stay on as her investigator and find proof that John is innocent. She warns she can’t pay him but that doesn’t matter to Rafe, who is willing to do it for one important reason: family. Later, Rafe unwittingly pours a little salt in Sami’s wounds with a romantic gesture.

Jennifer worries when Daniel runs late for their date. She thinks he has given up on her, but her fears are unfounded. He shows up, eager to go out. Before they leave, he sees how much Jennifer wants to help Bo and Hope go through Alice’s stuff and graciously offers to change their plans so they can help. The foursome has a good time looking through Alice’s old mementos. Daniel finds a picture of Maggie and learns about his mother’s remarkable past. Later, Hope finds a hidden letter addressed to her grandmother and learns it’s from Susan Banks – EJ’s mother! In the letter, Susan asks Alice for medical help for a young EJ, who is sick – and she begs Alice not to tell Stefano. Bo, Hope, Jennifer and Daniel try to digest this latest revelation and wonder what it all means. Later, Daniel and Jennifer share a sweet kiss, while Bo and Hope are determined to get answers from Stefano.

Marlena tracks Jack down at the pub after he cancels their first therapy session. Jack is upset that Jennifer is going out with Daniel that night and intends to drink his pain away. Marlena slowly gets him to open up, and he begins to understand the root of his destructive behavior. They later go back to the townhouse, where Jack has more flashes of his time locked up in Afghanistan. Marlena pushes and Jack finally reveals the horrors he endured – particularly the execution of his cellmate (and friend). Jack breaks down as Marlena comforts him. Madison drops in on Brady at the Titan offices and admits he was right – she shouldn’t run from Salem. She announces that she will open up her headquarters in town as planned. Relieved Brady has a few ideas of how she can get a stronghold on the Salem cosmetics market – but Madison secretly has an idea of her own. Madison asks Brady out to dinner and they enjoy an evening of flirtation. At the end of dinner, Brady pulls Madison into a hot kiss… which leads to her asking him back to her place. They come very close to making love – but at the last minute, Madison inexplicably pulls back and asks Brady to leave. A confused and angry Brady goes.

Sami runs into Will when she comes home to get a file, and he’s extremely cold to her. She presses her son about his attitude. If she’s offended him in any way, she wants to apologize. Will is tempted to tell her he knows she slept with EJ, but he doesn’t get the chance. His contempt for his mother and her duplicity builds.

Will has a renewed interest in Gabi, promising her that he wants to make a commitment to her and their future. He wants them to be the sort of couple other people admire. Gabi isn’t sure what to make of Will’s new devotion. She has no idea that he is reacting to Sami’s slutty behavior with EJ and wants to lead a moral life. Will presents her with some gifts, building to a revelation that he wants them to move in together. Gabi is caught off guard at first, but warms to the idea. When she starts to get amorous, however, Will abruptly pulls back and confuses her all the more. She leaves without telling Will if she’ll move in with him or not. Off her conversation with Will, Sami crosses with EJ and wonders if there is any way someone could have seen them having sex. EJ doubts it, and certainly hopes not because it would ruin his relationship with Nicole. Sami and EJ cover when Nicole catches them talking. The stakes continue to build over their secret.

Sami, Carrie, Jennifer and Lexie meet for lunch. Sami finds out from Carrie that she and Rafe are continuing to work together on John’s class action lawsuit. She’s not happy about it, but considering her own behavior with EJ, she doesn’t want to make waves. Carrie encourages Sami to visit Marlena now that John is in jail, but Sami wants nothing to do with them. She still blames John and her mother for what nearly happened with Johnny.  Nicole arranges for some reporters to grill Abe after he visits John in jail. Jennifer accuses Nicole of playing dirty, and warns if this is the sort of campaign she and EJ plan to run, they had better watch out. Lexie is disappointed her efforts to have a truce with her brother have failed.

At Maggie’s, Chad, Sonny and Will make dinner for Abigail, Melanie and Gabi. Conflicted Gabi wants to move in with Will but feels there’s something missing in their relationship. She eventually turns down his offer and ends up breaking up with him. Will has a huge over-reaction, not just because of her rejection but also because he’s still reeling from his mother’s unspeakable actions with EJ. He explodes in a fit of anger, tearing apart Maggie’s kitchen. While sharing a meal at the Brady Pub, Austin and Carrie decide to stay in Salem — permanently. Abigail runs into them and fights a subtle attraction to Austin. Later, Carrie comments to Austin how Abigail has turned from a gawky kid into a beautiful young woman.  At Quinn’s spa, Sami enjoys the massage Rafe booked for her. She’s busted by Madison, however, and she reads her the riot act for patronizing the enemy. Rafe is protective and defends his wife. At home, Sami’s guilt is unceasing in the face of Rafe’s caring. When he asks if things are okay between them, Sami is driven to show him just how much she loves him and comes up the impulsive but heartfelt suggestion that they renew their vows. Rafe, nonplussed but pleased, agrees.  Roman warns Quinn that he’d better stick to the straight and narrow or he’ll end up in jail. Kate, who has witnessed Sami being chewed out by Madison, comes up with a juicy idea. Later, Madison waves off Roman’s warning about going up against Kate DiMera.
