At the DiMera mansion, Marlena confronts Stefano and accuses him of being behind John’s arrest. She knows Stefano is the only person who would and could fabricate the damning evidence against her husband. Stefano remains cool but categorically denies any involvement, telling Marlena he’s over any vendetta against John. Marlena doesn’t believe him and plays on his feelings for her. If he won’t drop this for John, do it for her. Stefano claims he would – if he had anything to do with it. Marlena storms out, unconvinced.

Carrie and Austin are exhausted and conflicted over their opposing roles in John’s case. Austin creates a romantic evening for them at their hotel room and, though it starts out dubiously, it ends with them making love. They vow not to let anything, including this case, come between them. Bo and Hope take a break from John’s case to pursue the Alice mystery. They rummage through boxes in the Horton attic and find the letter Alice was writing to Maggie before she died.

Meanwhile, at the Kiriakis mansion, Maggie is missing her daughters, Sarah and Melissa. Her mood improves when she and Victor discuss their upcoming wedding. Bo and Hope arrive with the letter and interrupt their planning. Maggie reads the letter and is stunned beyond belief. Alice wrote that she’d done some investigating and had learned that the eggs Maggie had harvested years ago had actually produced a child – without her consent. Maggie has another child! Maggie is overwhelmed and thrilled until Bo and Hope explain that’s all they know. Apparently Alice passed away before she could finish the letter. Jack comes upon Daniel and Jennifer just as she reiterates that she still loves Jack. He’s elated until Jennifer explains she also loves Daniel. She’s clearly anguished and confused. Daniel, unable to stand the pain she’s in, offers to step aside to make it easier for her. But Jennifer breaks down at the thought of losing Daniel. Jack, fearing that his reconciliation with Jennifer could be slipping away, says it’s not as if Jennifer can go out with both men. Daniel surprises both Jack and Jennifer by saying maybe that’s not such a bad idea – they should at least consider it. If Jennifer spends time with both of them, it could help make her decision more clear.

Madison arrives at the loft to work with Sami and finds her new employee in the midst of domestic chaos. Sami manages to pull it together and multi-task – dealing with her children and her boss. Madison is a bit wistful as she observes Sami’s interactions with her kids. After seeing how well Sami balances her work and home life, an impressed Madison gives her an account to oversee – and it’s one that will put her head-to-head with Kate!  Carrie and Austin reaffirm their love and promise not to let John’s case come between them. Their promise is short-lived, however, when Rafe comes across a tidbit that could exonerate John. To Austin’s dismay, Carrie keeps the info a secret and leaves town. Rafe takes her to the airport. Earlier, Austin confides to Rafe his belief that John is guilty. Rafe is cool and says John is family; he doesn’t want to condemn the man just yet.

John is angry with Marlena for visiting Stefano and putting him on notice. Strong Marlena doesn’t back down or regret her decision. John would have done the same thing for her. When Carrie arrives, they go over the evidence and seemingly come up empty until they receive a call from Rafe. He informs Carrie there is an orderly at the Swiss clinic who remembers John being there when he was supposedly in Paris. His testimony could exonerate him! Energized Carrie vaguely tells John and Marlena she has a lead and will be in touch.

Abigail finds Melanie in an awkward moment with Chad. Abigail is cool and they joke about it. Later, Melanie and Abigail talk about the impact of Jack’s return on their parents’ relationship. Abigail says she can’t forgive her father. Both Chad and Melanie think that’s a mistake. At the same time, the Salem U. sports site that Sonny created has been gay bashed. Will and Gabi try to keep it from Sonny, but he finds out and offers to bow out. Will and Gabi rally him and he decides to stay. Later, Chad tells Sonny something other than the cyber bullying is going on with the site – and they might have a big problem…

EJ and Nicole look over polling results, which show Abe slipping after he publicly defended John. Meanwhile, Abe and Lexie visit John and Marlena. John thanks Abe for standing up for him on television, but warns that this crisis could cost his friend the election. Abe won’t desert his friend. John and Marlena start to relax with the company of trusted friends but an ugly reminder of the public’s anger comes crashing through the window in the form of a brick with a note attached reading “Die thief.” John resolves to address these accusations and gets on a live broadcast, making a statement that he is innocent. His words are forceful and decisive. Anxious Maggie meets with Bo and Hope to figure out the mystery of Alice’s letter. The letter asserts that Maggie has a child she never knew about. Maggie recalls how she had some eggs harvested when she and Mickey were trying to conceive. A medical storage facility was in charge of keeping them. Maggie finds the number of the facility, but they’re all thrown to learn the phone has been disconnected. Further investigation by Bo and Hope reveal the company appears never to have existed. Maggie is thrown; she never expected this bump in the road. Bo and Hope decide to go back and grill Alice’s attorney further on the subject. Maggie returns home to see if there’s anything else to be discovered there. Once Victor is alone, he gets on the phone and makes a mysterious call, warning that his name can never to be connected to the company.

Jennifer, Jack and Daniel further discuss the notion of her trying to date both men to help her choose between them. Even though she knows it makes sense, she hates the notion that someone will end up hurt. Jack points out that if they don’t try this, all three of them will be hurt. Jack brings up the issue of sex. Jennifer flatly declares she’s a one-man woman and won’t be intimate with either of them while this experiment plays itself out.

Austin and Rafe clash when Carrie calls from Switzerland to check in – with Rafe, not Austin. Austin thinks Rafe’s continuing connection with Carrie means he’s stepping over the line in his role investigating the case against John and helping the defense. Rafe covers but asserts he believes in John’s innocence. Sami confesses to Roman that she has her doubts about John. Later, she connects with Austin and he warns her that Rafe may be skating on thin ice. They bond a little, and Sami reveals that Marlena admitted John isn’t completely back, mentally. Sami believes that may have led to John doing what she fears he did. Since Austin is alone while Carrie is away, Sami invites him to move into her place, and after some prodding, he finally admits it’s a good idea.

Roman confronts Rafe and tells him the FBI has been made aware that he’s been working with Carrie. He’s crossed the line – and he’s fired! Rafe returns home and Sami arrives with Austin, announcing that he’ll be staying with them. Rafe – convinced Austin is the one who ratted him out to the FBI – decks him. Abigail gets a shock when her father shows up to take Jennifer on a date. She feels betrayed and wonders how her mother could forget what Jack did to them all. Jennifer gets Abigail alone and strongly asserts she’s doing what she feels she has to do. She needs to sort out her feelings for Daniel and for Jack. Abigail says her mother is making a big mistake. She rejects Jack’s overtures and rushes out. Once alone with Jack, Jennifer wonders if they are making a mistake. Confident Jack asks her to stay the course. Go out with him today. She won’t be sorry. Meanwhile, Daniel is with Melanie and Chad, trying not to think about Jennifer’s date with Jack. When Abigail arrives, she asks how Daniel could agree to such an arrangement. He defends that he loves Jennifer too much not to give her the chance to make up her own mind about whom she wants. Jennifer and Jack go on their “first” date under their unorthodox arrangement with Daniel. Jack surprises Jennifer by having them decorate Halloween cookies for the children in the hospital. He reveals that in Afghanistan he witnessed too many children suffering and he was deeply affected by one little boy in particular. He resolved to do what he could to help other children in need. Jennifer can’t help but be affected by this side of him.

Furious Rafe decks Austin, accusing him of being responsible for the leak about him working with Carrie. It cost him his job! Sami is upset by the altercation and jumps in to stop more fisticuffs. Austin and Rafe face off but Sami blows it big-time when she unwittingly blurts that at least Austin still has a job. Stunned Rafe storms out of the loft, too angry to speak. Austin and Sami both agree that his moving in is not a good idea. Later, Sami finds Rafe at the Brady Pub. He accepts her apology but Austin shows up with the news that he’s lost his hotel room and there aren’t any other rooms available in town due to the news coverage of John’s investigation. He knows this is really lousy timing but staying with them could be his only option. Bo delivers a real blow to Marlena and John when he informs them that Rafe has been fired from the Salem PD. The FBI learned he had been leaking pro-John information to Carrie. Bo has been tapped to replace him as the PD/FBI liaison, and though he supports John, he can’t do what Rafe was doing. He must maintain complete professional objectivity. He leaves to join Hope, Maggie and Melanie at the lawyer’s office. Emotional John and Marlena refuse to let this latest bad news take over and they finally make love, the first time since his paralysis.

Bo joins Maggie, Melanie and Hope as they visit Alice’s lawyer. They plead with her to give them more information. Maggie is understandably distraught at the idea that, after learning she has another child, she may never be able to find him or her. The lawyer is affected and though she can’t break her promise to Alice, she leaves the pertinent file on her desk, admonishing them that they mustn’t look at it when she’s gone; i.e., she’s giving them tacit permission to do just that. They do look and Hope thinks she’s found what they need – the name of the fertility clinic that likely wound up with Maggie’s harvested eggs.
