The Young and the Restless executive producer, Jill Farren Phelps chats with Michael Fairman shortly after receiving the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series at the 41st Annual Daytime Emmys ceremonies. Jill discusses that decision to go with episodes surrounding “Delia’s death” storyline that won the gold, and the Emmy wins of Amelia Heinle (Victoria) and Billy Miller (Ex-Billy) who both played major parts in the telling of the heartbreaking storyline.

  1. Scott (ATWT Fan) says:

I applaud Jill and her past and present writing teams on The Young and the Restless. I think it’s a beautiful show once more that was dragged through the mud and back under the previous reign of Maria. JFP has turned the show around, and made it a much more enjoyable experience for myself and everyone in my family to watch! I applaud her, and I cannot wait for the following year of storytelling for the series. I see big things coming, and cannot wait for things to unfold!

JFP has turned Y&R into a complete disaster. She ruined the career of an absolutely talented actor with rumors that have never been substantiated. She brought on “youngsters with fluff and no talent.” The original premise of the show is totally gone. Bringing “Jason” on and making him nondescript because he is her “buddy” in also a disgrace. I have watched from day 1, but, that is so over and my numerous friends are in total agreement. WE ARE DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I only occasionally watch YawneR, but I have many friends and family members that feel the same way you do. Most of them are excited for DAYS and/or GH!

    Maria replied

Gail what have you been smoking, Jill knows what she is doing, Young and the Restless won lots of emmys this year. You are a very miserable sow Gail. Young The Restless is number 1 for over 27 years, and Jill is here to stay, don’t watch Gail, if you want to whine and complain turn off your tv.

    Scott (ATWT Fan) replied

Grace, whatever you are smoking has made you completely delusional, and I refuse to give your unintelligent response any kind of intelligence or attention. SHE did nothing about the rumours of Michael; the mere fact people are believing a farse of TMZ over the actor himself, is unbelievable. Stop blaming your life issues on JFP, etc. Good day to you!

HUH? Scott, is this a joke?

    Maria and Scott:
It is NOT okay to call another commentator a “miserable human sow or “delusional” for expressing an opinion contrary to your own. Gail expressed the an opinion which is certainly not in the minority and did not deserve your incredibly insulting and somewhat puzzling over reaction. I continue to be dismayed and disappointed in soap fans who personalize their soaps to such a degree that they rabidly attack another person who dares to be critical of that soap or of the writer/producer of that soap/ Take a deep breath and back away from the computer before you reduce yourself to sounding like an insane soap fan. It’s people like you who give us soap fans a bad name. And finally, you both owe Gail an apology–your name calling was beyond the pale.

    Scott (ATWT Fan) replied

No, it is not. And the name calling people have put against JFP has been beyond the pale, and complete b.s. The way other fans have responded have been puzzling and over-reacted, as if they could run a show better than a woman who has been in the industry for many years. Perhaps your words should go towards others who are much more on the scale of “insane” and constantly spew negativity about a series that has rebounded greatly from its grave-ridden death that a previous EP nearly put it into. And her comments may not have been in the minority, but it is far from the opinion of the majority.

I love you Jill, congrats on the emmys, You are a very talented lady. Keep up the good work. Please jill fire Eric Braeden, he is getting senile. Replace him with Ron Raines ex Alan Spaulding Guiding light. He would be a better fit, as the new Victor Newman.

I finally figured it out! JFP and other writers do not produce Y&R for viewers. They could care less about us. They write to get awards from the daytime industry. You can tell that’s all they care about. They insult long-time viewers by creating stories for characters without researching those characters’ personalities. Stories are out of thin air! The same, old, constant theme for years has been new, evil characters appear to hurt favorite characters (intelligent, smart and savvy heads of companies) who are always written as clueless, bumbling victims of these newcomers. I love the long-time characters (young and older) and hate to see them always be victimized! My Mom (passed 2 years ago at age 93) watched Y&R from day one. When I used to asked her why she loved it so, she said Y&R was fast moving, exciting, diverse and didn’t drag out stories. Now stories are dragged out and never get resolved! People stop watching because they don’t want to wait years for results! It’s harder for me to watch! I keep trying to watch Y&R, but I keep stopping from pure frustration.

Joan…BRAVO!!!!! I COULDN’T AGREE MORE!!!!! At this point, when I watch Y&R, I (at the end of MOST episodes) end up shaking my head in disbelief. Joan…I have been a Y&R fan ever since the summer of 1980 (I was a young kid back then. I am now age 46.). Back in the day (in terms of storytelling), Y&R made me feel HAPPILY BREATHLESS!!!!! Fast-forward to 2014 (aka now): I no longer feel this way. At this point, I feel insulted and offended. And, trust me…it takes A LOT to insult and offend me!!!!! Bottom Line Here: Y&R viewers deserve W-A-Y B-E-T-T-E-R!!!!!
